Why can't these women stop having kids?!!!!!

Definitely, the DA was racist - no question there.

But I have a hard time with someone demanding respect, when they don't give it.

If you have two children by two guys who are serving time in prison for drug charges, how about you stop spreading your legs? Or at least be using birth control?

Why should John and Jane Doe, American taxpayers, be paying to help her raise these kids?

Sadly, I'd guess her daughters will go on to live the same lives, sucking off the taxpayers teat.

What the hell does that have to do with the story? This movie was about people who were unjustly targeted for prison by a corrupt system because they were black. It's not about the main character or whether she should have had kids or not. And I'm sick of right-wing nuts like you yelling about so-and-so "sucking off the taxpayers' teat"---do you know anything about the real person the main character is based on? You obviously don't,so shut up. BTW, the rules of welfare have changed since Welfare-To-Work started in 1996, so the days of people living off the system from generation to generation (yeah, white people did that s***,too) are pretty much a thing of the past to some extent, depending on where you are, I guess.

Another thing---there's this white couple in Utah who have 18--count 'em--EIGHTEEN children--and the mother just had a nineteeth, with some complications. But since they're a white middle-class Mormon family, funny how they get a major pass, and you don't see too many people calling THEM out on their insanity--these fools actually believe that "to be fruitful and multiply" means to keep on having kids, despite the fact that they're both getting too old to keep on doing that. Who's the hell helping them take care of all those kids (the youngest ones, anyway?) How come they don't get publicly slammed for "sucking off the "taxpayers' teat" as you put it? Talk about double standards and a half!

What it has to do with the story? So her being mistreated is not okay, but her mistreating taxpayers by them having to pay for her kids is fine? Based on how the movie portrayed her, she seemed intelligent. So why couldn't she have realized having more kids was not the way to go?

Has absolutely NOTHING to do with the color of her skin!

If ya can't feed em, don't breed em!!!

reply

mel-holden, why are you angry at those who are targets of systematic racism rather than be angry at the system that creates poverty and hopelessness for those targets?

reply

What system creates poverty and hopelessness? I see plenty of well educated, well employed non whites. That 'system' of 'the man keeping them down' only exists in the minds of the lazy and people who refuse to use birth control until they succeed in life.

reply

@mel

Once again, that was NOT even what the movie was about, so it's entirely irrelevant. Funny how I don't EVER see these same kinds of comments about WHITE single mothers with lots of kids in movies---it's always about black single mothers---so,yeah, your comment was racist, because it had absolutely NOTHING to do with the story, and you know it, so stop trying to front like what you said wasn't racist.h

Wild guess: she had her kids when she was very young, and Texas isn't exactly spending money for sex-ed or birth control(or for education in general).

In passing, the woman works full time to support her kids.
We don't know if she was on public assistance, except for the part where she's in public housing (for all we know, it's her mom's place).

So questions worth asking would be: how come a corrupt racist DA was reelected, how come working full-time doesn't allow her to make a decent living?

Oh, and in what concrete way have *you* improved society? Cause she managed to get a significant law changed. As far as I'm concerned, she's a very positive investment for taxpayers!

I believe it mentioned she had her first kid before she was 16. Some states like Texas push for education in things like abstinence, creationism, and other fictional concepts. I don't believe there is a single source of the problems, but I believe it is unfair to put the blame entirely on the mother/father and not also target a system itself that prevents proper education. It's a lot easier to shape good behavior if you target kids rather than try to change behavior once people have grown up.

THAT's what you took away from the story? You HAVE to be a racist to miss the bigger picture. Interesting how people like you have a problem with a low-income individual using public funds to survive, but have no problem supporting the windsor royals in using millions in taxpayer dollars to live a life of complete luxury. People like Donald Trump and other members of the wealthy elite circumvent the laws to avoid paying millions of dollars a year in federal and local taxes. They make selfish moves that put you and me at a detriment. Our tax dollars are used to bail out corporations that make crap decisions. These same corporations are outsourcing millions of jobs, so that these CEOs can line their pockets with billions of dollars that they stash in overseas accounts. The top .01% of this country possesses over 90% of this country's money and the government keeps giving them tax break after tax break, when they don't need it, but you're worried about this young woman who's taking responsibility for the decisions that she's made by raising her kids that she could have easily discarded? You're worried about the $20k a year this woman is struggling to survive on when there are hedge fund managers that go to great lengths to avoid paying sometimes $20 million a year in local taxes that helps repair roadways, build bridges, etc. Some people just don't want to open their eyes.

Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends.
