How many times has this movie been done? Family gets together, their disfunctional, hijinks ensue, then they realize that they really love each other in the end. Will there be an Asian and an Indian version of this tired plot coming soon?
So what if there is with Asaians and Indians some people rather see happy feel good films than films where people blow things and eachother up....Besides scrooges just don't have to go see them.
Sig- Not having an open mind is a good thing to lose
Why not, though? I've seen every dysfunctional family movie there is, but I still get it.
For example, there is a romantic plot in almost any movie ever made. Aren't people tired of romantic comedies or romance making its way into action flicks, horror flicks, art flicks, and so on and so on? No, because we all relate to love situations. I think that applies to family situations as well. Most of us go through crazy holidays, through seeing people we haven't seen in a while and having to confront the same dysfunctional family situations. They keep making these movies and we keep watching them because we relate to them.
I agree, but H-town will make one for every race until the space aliens get here. I suppose it's just too hard for folks to apply the message to their lives. They have to see themselves on the screen for it to make sense. I guess it's lucky that there's one latino guy on the writing team to serve as a consultant and translator.
I agree taliamarie. White people only get tired of the "same plots" when its mnot from their prospective. There are soooooo many white movies with the same plot its not even close to being funny. I for one and glad to see a different outlook for a change. I really enjoyed this movie.
I think maybe we all saw a different movie. I saw a movie where characters found something new to belive in. At first Ozzy believed he had to have vengeace on the guy who killed his brother. After her found a new family and something else to believe in Vanessa Ferlito seeing that gang violence wasn't wroth living for.
I also saw Freddy Rodriguez thinking the only thing he was good for was soldiering in the army coming to terms with running the family store because he was good at it and he enjoyed it even though he did't want to walk in his dads footsteps.
I also saw a subplot about a woman who thought her husband was cheating on her but was really dealing with a real life cancer scare.
hmm maybe i should watch the movie again apparently its quite simple and conventional.
I don't think there will be an Asian or Indian version of a X-mas movie because while some Asians and Indians surely celebrate x-mas, most are not Christians and x-mas is a Christian holiday.
Another addition would be the Debra Messing character who is so eager to please the family but at the same time judgemental that when she comes off as stuckup but when she's more laid-back, open and honest, the mother actually likes her more.
