john's character toasts "L'Chaim" at dinner...
The night is darkest before the dawn.
Now *that's* the pitch! "Ok, it's about this Puerto Rican guy who brings home his new WASPy Jewish wife for the holidays."

Maybe she is. I can swear "Grace" was Jewish, as well.
* WARNING:
I'm sarcastic; I hurt people's feelings. Boo hoo.

I'm sick & tired of people being so ignorant to think Puerto Ricans are all black or indian. Most of PR is white due to the fact that Italians. Spaniards, French and German settled there many years ago.
I'm half Puerto Rican & my PR fam is whiter looking than Debra Messing!
I wish this nonsense would stop...
You know, Roger Ebert mentioned this board on his review of Nothing Like the Holidays.

He called the thread starters "deep thinkers". LOL
"When people do not have a past, they must create myths to supplement the facts of their existence"
She married in to it. She is of Greek heritage.
Can you fly this plane?
Surely you can't be serious.
I am serious, and don't call me Shirley
Debra Messing herself was born Jewish. She was not married into it.
Per her character, Sarah is supposed to be Jewish. They never say it outright, but they drop hints. Like when Sarah mentioned she didn't "grow up singing Christmas carols" and at the end when Anna gave them a Christening gown and she turned to Mauricio in shock 'cause they hadn't discussed religion. (In Judaism, the child is considered Jewish if his/her mother is, regardless of whether the father is or not; however, if the father is Jewish and the mother is not, the child isn't.)
For what it's worth, John Leguizamo is married to a Jewish woman so I'm sure he felt right at home.
