modern sports equipment

i was just thinking, do you guys think there could be an argument made that if steroids are to be banned in sports then so should modern athletic equipment and pain killers? because if you think about it, people setting records now with modern medicine and athletic equipment have an edge over the older guys in ther less superior threds, does that kind of thing not deserve an astrisk? because i can tell you as a football player modern pads and uniforms are extremely light,, cool and mobile where as old uniforms were bulky, hot and they weigh a friggin ton and it would have been much harder to perform in them. so cant steroids be looked at as just another acceptable inovation.

Great point, I think yes and no. It is somewhat unfair that entire laboratories and billions of dollars are poured into sports research now that they didn't even think about decades ago. I mean what did they have, gatorade? But I think the athletes are much better now too. You didn't have entire defenses that could run a sub 4.6 40 back in the 60s and also weighed 250lbs but that can also be attributed to the research put into athletics and how to train and specialized weight-lifting regimens.

I think Golf though is the best example of unequal equipment and research compared to decades ago. How many majors would Tiger Woods win with Jack Nicklaus' actual woods and one kind of golf ball, not 10 different balls specialized for distance, drag, or type of grass. It definitely doesn't make the player but it makes the player better.

It's interesting you mention painkillers.
In fact, athletic organizations have extensive lists of various substances that are not permitted, not just steroids. Amphetamines and narcotic painkillers are very likely to be included on the banned lists.
