Pharmacist (spoiler)

How cold that he wouldn't provide any medication at all (or at least try to call the doctor or provide a few pills to hold them over); this guy was the only villain in the movie (aside from the disease, of course).

Struck me as a huge plot hole. Pharmacies can sell you a few days supply to tide you over in a case like this, as long as it's not something like oxycontin.

It was sort of a 50/50 thing in the movie, the pills (which I first thought were hers) not being refilled.

And the doctor being away? To my experience, there is always another doctor covering in that circumstance.

It can be sort of rationalized by saying the pharmacist is one of those
'by the book' types, who doesn't bend.

And Mary, maybe is like my mom, who takes no for an answer when it is given by someone she thinks is in charge. Old school.

The one thing I didn't think really fit in the movie was the gun. It meant Robert was aware of his situation, where all other clues indicate he was not, he thought he was normal.

Actually, the gun just means he was sad, lonely, depressed, tired....
Not necessarily aware of his specific condition.

Exactly! I am watching this now & thought the same thing. Pharmacies can always give you what they call an Emergency Supply (usually 2-3 days worth) of any medication except controlled substances.

I take back what I posted. I found out something about pharmacology.

If the drug was a controlled substance of a certain level, the pharmacist could not legally fill it, or even supply a few pills, without being fined. That is how it is in NJ, where I live. They need a handwritten prescription from the doctor, with the correct date. If discovered, the pharmacist could be fined $10,000 and lose their license.

I found this out listening to someone trying to get a premature refill on a level 2 controlled drug, arguing with a pharmacist, ahead of me in line yesterday at the pharmacy.

I don't know what drug it was in Robert's case, but that is another story.

No unfortunately Pharmacies cannot. If the ? is on the list, they cannot. I know cause I just got back from the hospital where they proscribed an alternative medicine for my wife even though she was already showing signs of forgetfulness and confusion. It is sad, but that is how they work it. Too much abuse and mistrust. Sometimes, many times in fact it hurts good people.
