Why did Choc have an umbrella?

I hope it's not for what I think it might be for. Why did his beautiful baby girl have an umbrella on that beautiful California day at the soccer field? Does she have a condition that I'm not aware of?

that's what i was thinking.

reply

maybe she wanted to block the sun.

What were you thinking it might be for?

LoL exactly same thing I was thinking what would it be for other than blocking the sun and heat. Geez!

reply

duh, the question is why. Did anyone else have one? Do you go out with one when it's not raining. Think about it.

reply

if i'm at the beach or a park, yes.

DING DING DING!!! Thanks adriancrdv!! Finally we have a winner! And where do you think she got that idea from??!! Her dumb ass parents! Instead of raising her to embrace her beautiful dark skin, they send her to the park with an unbrella (I doubt they adviced their lighter boys to take one). Just another example of the color complex in our so-called evolved black community!! It sickens my stomach and I wish I didn't have to walk yall through it. If choc was my daughter, she would have sun screen to protect her from skin damage and that's it!! Everyone should use sun screen regardless of color. Why should she have to carry an unbrella just to avoid getting darker. She wouldn't even worry about it if ignorant ass adults didn't put that in her mind. I hope her parents don't cause her to have low self-esteem of be self conscious when she gets older. I hate when parents reflect their own insecurities on their children.

reply

I doubt very seriously the not embracing her color as the reason. I believe the child could fall out from the heat and the umbrella aids in keeping the direct sun OFF of her. I see parents protect their kids from the sun with umbrellas quite frequently. If not an umbrella then something else no doubt.

I say this just one time - it's time we all got some funshine.

reply

LadyD, that's true and that is why I was careful at first not to state my assumption. But, do you really think that is all there is to it? Why didn't her brothers have one? I don't know, I just got a lump in my stomach when I saw that. I honestly don't see kids with unbrellas that often. Like I said, I really hope her skin tone had NOTHING to do with it...but, it probably did:-(

reply

GuitarHero, I'm not finding you that genuinely concerned so excuse me if I'm wrong. But SHE'S THE CHILD. The brother's are older and probably aren't as sensitive to the sun as she is. For the record, why does it even matter? If it where a white child would you care?? I think it's far deeper than what the condition may be than people here are admitting. I think you are looking for a racial justification. Reason... the next to the last post made by you. If you can prove otherwise then please do so because it looks as if you want a skin color bandwagon to jump on.

As a black woman who has dealt with these issues and seen similar actions by ignorant black parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins...I am genuinely concerned. Let's not pretend like this isn't an issue in the black community. There has been books, articles, dissertations and the like written about it. Shows dedicated to it and referenced in many movies. Things are getting much better, however. Growing up in the south I experienced things like that myself and know how it can affect a child (that's why it matters). I consider Snoop's boys to still be children by the way. Like I asked, if she has a condition that I do not know about, fine I apologize. If it were a white child I would not care as much depending on the child's complexion. As we know, super fair (ex. Irish-American) children are prone to extreme sun burn and blisters and an umbrella would make more since.

p.s. I am not at all upset by your interpretation of the situation and I actually understand it. Different experiences dictate different perceptions; just keep that in mind when responding to posts. Not everyone has an agenda.

Your agenda was apparent in the post above GuitarHero. You waited for someone to say what YOU wanted to read and then proceeded to jump all over the parents in hatred STILL not knowing if the child was carrying it because SHE wanted too, her Mo thought it was cute and/or if the child really does have a skin condition which harms her skin WHICH is none of your concern. What you dealt with personally is just that PERSONAL!! Don't try to figure it out by hateration or ignorance. If the child wants to carry a damn umbrella in the brightest sun there is or even the moonlight ALLOW HER. She's a child, one mo' 'ghin, SHE's A CHILD!!

How would you feel if the child were yours to know that people sit around and scrutinize things like skin color, their umbrellas and the need to justify it - all for their own personal so called assessment?? You came pretty mild up until I called you. If you had no hidden agenda you should have been woman enough to step up in the OP and just lay it all out. Personal crap and all. You aren't fooling anyone. You're a black person looking for personal justification of why and you should just ALLOW people to be who they are.

reply

Umm, I "came mild" until Adriancrdv not you and I never scrutinized choc's color. What I did scrutinize was her parent's action. I’m just a person with an opinion. Why can’t you just accept that and move on. I have no issue with yours. I do however; find your resistance to the possibility mind boggling and very suspect. I’ve had my opinion from the start, BUT I have remained open to a substantiated explanation. Why you are taking my opinion so personally is bizarre. I'm a random person on the internet. My opinions are of no consequence to you at all and vice versa. What do you hope to accomplish? I personally just wanted to see if anyone interpreted it the why I did and get some real answers. All you are giving me are a bunch of assumptions. Which is the very thing you are giving me a hard time about...an assumption. Can you not see that?

Next thing you are going to tell me is that her nick name is Choc, because that’s her favorite flavor.

reply

I had a problem with you hating on the parents the way you did in text AND you still do not know the reason for the umbrella. You should have just asked your question and moved on withOUT placing judgment based on YOUR personal ASSessment and things YOU'VE dealt with. You waited for the answer that wsa close to what YOU want to believe. Others answered their thoughts and you didn't respond and when you did it still was what YOU want to believe vs. allowing for OTHER input or thought. It's all about you, no the child at all and you know it. The lump in your stomach is you need some ant-acids for the concerned crap you're attempting to display.

Not all things in life need neat little categories or reasons GuitarHero. You are trying to come with A reason when you can't find one. Leave it alone and chalk it up as what it was. And if her nick name was because she likes choc an her family made it public, you'd still argue "now it ain't, it's her skin color"!! And why I am so personal on this, because I despise hypocrites.

And I move along.

reply

lol, I'm sorry. But this is the INTERNET! You are in the wrong place if you don't like running into people whose opinions you dislike. It is so funny that you called me a hypocrite when you attack me for doing the same exact thing you are doing, "trying to come with A reason when you can't find one." Yet you still can't see that. Oh, and here's a good one, "you should have just asked your question and moved on withOUT placing judgment based on YOUR personal ASSessment..." Wtf? Why? Because you don't like it? Get over yourself. If you can't even concede even the slightest possibility that my interpretation is correct, you are either stubborn, irrational or delusion. Yours have been duly considered. And please don't tell me what I would argue, especially if it contains the word "ain't." No need to discuss "what ifs," we all know why she was given that nick name. Now you are just being silly. Good day.

reply

Actually you didn't state anything as OPINION you stated everything as FACTS. If you had said I think her parents made her carry that umbrella it may have been different.

reply

This whole conversation is mind-bottling.

I don't understand the question, nor will I respond to it.

Who ever said that her parents told her to take an umbrella so she won't get darker? Maybe she just didnt want to be hot.

Choc and her brothers are adorable and a lot more interesting than thier parents, especially ghetto ass Shante lol @ You may have had him once but I got him all the time.

reply

Can't believe all this, just because the girl was carrying an umbrella!

reply

Is it me or does Choc not look ANYTHING like Snoop?

reply

She's a darker version of her Mom as the boys are a split image of their Dad, to me. It CAN happen like this you know.

I say this just one time - it's time we all got some funshine.

reply

good lord, why all the ? I seriously doubt that the girl's parents made her carry the umbrella so she doesn't get any darker, though it is possible, but I doubt it. It is also possible that she does have a complex about her dark skin and she wishes not to get any darker. She's a young girl and in our society, it's not unusual for young girls to feel bad about something of their physical appearance that society has deemed unattractive. Her nickname "Choc" or "Chocolate" appears to be a name coined out of endearment . Maybe they are trying to get her to embrace her dark skin. Maybe the girl is just sensitive to sunlight, I know I am. But those are just thoughts, not trying to state facts. I don't know, and neither does any one else except them.

my name is not Chloe!

reply

She had an Umbrella because she wanted to block out the sun and did not want to get sun burned. Simple as that, stop reading into it any further. It has nothing to do with not wanting to get darker.
