what's that p*ssed the catholics off so badly?
I find it difficult to understand what was wrong with the movie that could possibly make the catholics angry about it.
shareThe Magisterium (the bad guys, who are behind the operation at Bolvangar) are implied to be a branch of the Catholic church in the movie, and explicitly stated to be so in the books.
The books, it should be added, lead up to an all-out war between the heroes of the story, and a figure who represents the ultimate religious authority in the universe. The latter is supported by -guess who?- the Catholic Church.

Oh, the irony of life imitating art.
The Catholic Church boycotting the film, telling people what to think, making the likelihood of a sequel unlikely....... Magisterium at force in the real world censoring what they don;t agree with...
"It's for the children's own good" - that they don't watch the film in case they read the other books and don't believe in us/God/brainwashing any more.....
and no I'm not an atheist although it is my right to choose to be one without being condemnded for my belief. I don't condemn anyone else's beliefs or tell them I'm the only right and true and correct path in life.
