OK, but far from Jeunet's best work

This seemed to underwhelm the critics when it came out at the cinema, which is probably why I didn't see it at the time. But, I do have a lot of time for Jeunet. So, when I noticed it was on the tele the other night, I set the recorder... I didn't feel I got to know the characters at all and it had a slight air of a polemic, which was a bit off-putting. But, it was creative, watchable and, on occasions, quite funny... Definitely no "Amélie" or "Un long dimanche de fiançailles". But, I enjoyed it.
