City of Lost Children (which is one of my favorite movies). I was left kind of emotionally flat with Micmacs. I was looking very forward to it but a handful of laughs and some visual inventiveness carried the whole film. As well, it tried to be too clever with the tricking of the two CEOs. See No Man's Land for some very similar ground with that part of Micmacs but done waaaaay better.
sharei loved micmacs but imo, COLC is one of the greatest films ever made.To MM i had some emotional response- mostly the warmth i felt for the 7 dwarves and dany, and the continual delight of the visual conceits that that crew of geniuses, jeunet et al, come up with... They just leave me dumb struck (gob smacked i think the brits say.) I think I've just decided to sit up close to the screen tomorrow and watch it with the sound off, and simply concentrate on the sets and the visuals. what a thrill.
