Hollywood Needs To Learn This One Thing Once And For All

Never make sequels to great movies if they are not gonna live up to the original or if they are just gonna be a waste of time that carries on the title of the original great movie.

Raging Bull doesn't need this treatment. Everything involving Jake LaMotta that was really important was in the orginal which made it such a classic!!

reply

No, that's your opinion. And honestly, it's untrue. LaMotta's full story isn't even close to being fully told by Raging Bull. And yes, I love the film to death, it's a classic, and I do approve of a sequel! William Forsythe is an extremely talented actor who is also extremely underrated and over-looked. I also happen to have faith in the main writer Rustam Branaman as well as the director who swears to have a vision like no other.

Sequels when done correctly stand erect on a pedistal that's not too populated, but it's a pedistal worth having around and worth attempting to land on. If worst comes to worse, and the film isn't good, do you know what happens? Nothing. The film will bomb, be panned for months and the main actors as well as the writer and director will have trouble finding work and they won't find funding for a project similar to it EVER. However, if it does well, we'll all see LaMotta in a new light, we'll witness the resurection of William's career, we'll see a beautiful black and white homage to a classic film, and we'll see the most important thing: We'll see that it's possible to helm a sequel (to a finely aged film) with enough originality, creatvity, devotion and passion placed into it to have it be remembered, which in itself will bring attention to the original film which still deserves credit but is forgotten by the mainstream crowds! It's a win win situation and boycotting the sequel is both pointless and immature, not to mention simply financially and commercially unintelligent for anyone who'd like to see Raging Bull's popularity rise once again in a new era.

what p-m-boyer said would be ideal,if thats the way it went it would be great but as comicon rightly said why the obvious need to attach it to the original.they could of called it 'jake LaMotta' Most people would still know who this character is and be curious to see the film.anyone knoe was DeNiro asked to reprise the role

Just because a film has a great lead actor though doesn't make it a solid film; what does is a combination of that and whoever is working behind the camera. This Guigui guy's track record is complete garbage, and he's directed quite a few films. And even if he wasn't offered enough money to budget his films, that doesn't prohibit him from making a good film (some of the greatest ones of all time had really low budgets). Plus, if they wanted to continue this guy's legacy through movies, why do it 30 years later when the majority of the moviegoing crowd hasn't even heard of the original?

You sound like you are somehow related to the movie.

Ok. Godfather II. Let the marketplace (or the courts) decide. If it sucks, no own will see it anyway and it is straight to Netflix streaming.

Godfather 2 came 2 years after the first film, not 34 years. That's a big difference, the world has changed a lot.

So if someone born and raised in argentina writes & directs a film, you blame it on hollywood? I think the real problem is that idiots like you have some weird, childish agenda such that you'll go as far as to waste a bunch of time complaining to complete strangers on the internet and the only thing you've accomplished is to make yourself look stupid
