I never saw this movie but read about it and the premise seems similar to a real-life case of Birdie Jo Hoaks. She was in her 20s and would pretend to be a young runaway boy to get shelter and food. Most people believed it and took her in as a boy. Then her story begin to unravel. She never killed anyone, just a lot of fraud.

I guessed this early. I cannot remember exactly when as I saw it when it first came out, but I remember it being early in the movie and was surprised I was right cuz I am not usually.
