1) Did the parents have jobs? Because I didn't see them going to work. How on earth could they afford that nice secluded upscale house?

2) The mom was like, "we don't lock doors in this house". Um...what?? I just thought that was really insane and over-controlling on the mom's part. What's wrong with locking doors? Is privacy not allowed or something?

3) I could understand why the son was irritated with Ester living at the house. But I seriously think there were some moments when he was just being downright cruel to her. He acted like such a brat. Just sayin...

4) How could an orphanage seriously mistake the background of someone? I know this isn't part of the film. But the parents should've sued the orphanage. They would've made serious bank from that lawsuit. lol

5) I must say, for a heartless psychopath, Ester was very skilled at the piano. lol

6) I hated how the dad acted so oblivious to everything. He wasn't a good detective. lol

7) Even though Ester was really older than she looked, I have a hard time believing that she could hide her true appearance to such a great extent. Her real identity would've exposed if her parents would've taken her to the dentist. Just sayin...

8) At the end of the film, when the mom and Ester fall into the freezing water; in real life, they both probably would've went into shock from hypothermia. Ester certainly wouldn't have had the stamina to continue attacking the mom.

10) I'm surprised that the parents never asked Ester about her life before coming to their house.

4) Not really sure about international litigation, and even if they could sue successfully I'm not sure there is a lot of money in Russian orphanages. lol

Not the Russian orphanage. I'm talking about the orphanage that they got Ester from. They totally could've been sued.

I will have to rewatch. I thought that they got her from a Russian orphanage. :)

1) Not sure lol. Don't think the movie explains it

2) don't remember the movie talking much about this.

3) I think he had legitimate concerns that were justified. No one likes to be picked on in school because you have an odd sister stranger. He already suspected something was off with her.

4) Who knows? Every one can make mistakes like that.

5) If you are 33 years old, then you are obviously going to be skilled in certain areas like she was with her art and stuff, especially more so if she's posing as 9 year-old girl. Obviously she was skilled in the piano to attract families to her.

6) There's probably a reason they had Peter Sarsgaard as the dad. He is known for playing bastards who couldn't care less if the world ended tomorrow. I liked the concept of him playing a moronic husband and father that was so blinded by Esther's act. Plus it took him 8 years to tell his wife he had an affair. Now THAT's a really moronic husband.

7) This is the best one you mentioned as it is a plot hole. Surely after she was taken to the doctor's for her broken arm, the would have noticed the bones are that of adult.

8) They were only in for like 1-2 minutes. Not to unbelievable.

10) True. But then again that would probably ruin the twist.

1. It was mentioned by the Grandma that the Mum, Kate was a professor at Yale before losing the baby and battling alcohol addiction and the Dad was an architect. Kate assures him that the client will love his designs as he's leaving for work one morning.

2. Max (young daughter) almost drowned in the pond some time ago so Kate was probably nervous about bathtub water and potential drowning

3. All kids struggle with big changes. He was feeling jealous (Dad was less interested in him over 'new kid' Esther on Xmas day) and bullying (mates paid him out over his 'new sister'). Not having the maturity to identify or deal with such feelings, they lash out.

4. Not sure about that one!

5. Psychos can have talent lol

6. Yeah Dad was under Esther's spell (I gave him props for how he genuinely seemed to love Kate though and he thankfully wasn't a peodophile!)

7. Gotta have suspension of disbelief when watching movies

10. And yeah, good point. They were pretty keen to just pretend her life started at the time she was adopted which wasn't right. People have pasts before you meet them.

Speaking of the Grandmother. What a beyotch. No wonder her daughter drank. If your child is battling alcoholism why would you speak down to them like that? How about some encouragement?? If she was my mother I would never speak to her again.
