I must have spaced out during the flashbacks. Was it ever explained why cuba gooding jr's character shot the other soldier in the flashbacks?

3.5 years later... He was ordered to. He (and his whole team) are merc's. Not special forces as stated in a thread earlier. You shoot who they pay you to shoot.
