Just saw the film..A question about the ending ****WITH SPOILERS****

The cast was great in this film, and almost didn't recognize Mr. Pornostache without his 'stache from OISTB, but I have a question about the ending:

There were clues about the ending judging by way of how the family was receiving VHS tapes in the mail from one of the members of the clan despite the use of Skype and other uses of communication via video conferencing in this day and age.

When the matriarch of the family read the letter, she reacted the way any family would, but the flashbacks of the aftermath of the event says otherwise, meaning she already knew of the tragedy that hit home.

Did the matriarch have delayed PTSD? And why was the family keeping the 'secret' from her since then if she already knew?

Can someone please explain the climatic conclusion of the film? Again, the cast was great and I truly enjoyed the film.

Look, just because he's a pile of goo doesn't mean he's dead!

It's that defense mechanism of blocking out painful experiences I think its called regression?
When Nora seen the letter it brought back all her greif again. Her family was trying to tiptoe around the loss because of the devastating toll it particularly bore on Nora. Probably drove her into a psychosis initially, just as when her memories came back.

We're looking for bunnies! :)

I was confused about a lot of this as well but the other person kind of cleared a lot of that up for me.

Really good movie, I was not expecting that ending, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was actually totally lost regarding that one family member until the last 10 minutes and then it all added up. Really well put together.

Just a couple of things though:

1) It's a good thing that you didn't recognize Pablo Schreiber based on his character of Pornstache from OITNB :-P This movie was actually filmed several years before it was finally released in 2014. Judging from Pablo's hair length I'm guessing sometime in 2008.

2)Regarding the VHS tapes vs using Skype, etc, the movie takes place in 2002. Now I was just a kid in 2002 but I really wasn't heavy into technology the way I am now and I can't really recall if webcams and the like were really popular at that time. I mean I think even DVD's were JUST starting to catch on at that time which probably explains the use of VHS tapes.

All in all, great film, good character development as far as introducing all of the other family members and any personal situations they had going on. Too bad a wider audience won't get to see it.

It took me two times to watch it before I caught all the clues. I guess I'm slow. The second time, I heard what the doc was saying. Baiscally, yes, she had a psychotic break, didn't remember what happened. Doctors told the family that she would remember in time but she didnt until the letter. I think that the family didn't push because it would be like all of them reliving it all over again, so they waited for her to remember on her own. as with all things, more time goes by than you think and now the rest of the family, except the dad, really needed to move on but no body wanted to be the one to do that to the mom.

I really loved this movie. Didn't expect to but I did. Acting was outstanding. I read some of the reviews and had to really wonder if they saw the same movie I did. Especially the idiots who didn't realize it takes place in 2002 BEFORE facebook, twitter, skype and facetime were even invented. Personally, I don't think I was even texting back then! I also don't think the crappy reviewers realized the film makers were 9/11 survivors and that it wasn't "a gimmick". It was drawn from their own experience. The reviewers who got it, really got it. Maybe I'll stick with those people if I wanna check a movie out.
