Singh is Kinng copies Jackie Chan film

Singh is Kinng inspired by Jackie Chan's Mr Canton and Lady Rose: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098019/

Common elements are: Jackie and Akshay kumar play good hearted people who end up becoming bosses to take control of a criminal king and reform them

Both of them also purchase roses from an old lady who they believe is lucky for them

The purchase of the 1st rose makes them both into crime bosses

I've seen the Jackie Chan film and read the review for Kinng. Im sure Ill find a bunch of more inspired stuff if I actually saw it.

Not a copy, call it inspiration.

reply

inspiration?
have you seen the jackie chan movie? every thing from the boss in wheelchair to the red rose was copied.

reply

"Not a copy, call it inspiration."

I believe the word you are looking for is "imitation." There is nothing inspired about this film at all. And people complain about Hollywood movies being unoriginal. If they only knew.

yeah i agree, as much as a I hate plagarism, the producer had made sure that only very basic framework of the film is inspired from the jackie chan film

rest everything, the climax, the situations, the characters are all different...

also mr canton and lady rose is a alegedly plagarised from a frank capra film

Why...So..Serious? Let's put a smile on that face of yours!

Its little bit inspired, doesn't mean its a copy, the characters in the film are totally different.

Many stories are similar but I see your point

They also copied a scene from infernal affairs. When raftaar meets his ex and her kid in the mall and the ex lies about the kids age

WOW!

Thank you guys for pointing this out. I just watched Singh is Kinng and was appalled by how awful it was, not knowing that they plagiarized too! Geez, Bollywood has nothing original these days. It is not "inspiration" it is ripping off other people's ideas because they are too lazy or too cheap to pay good writers (we see all their money going into making everyone look hot and filming in exotic locations that have nothing to do with the plot).

And Jackie Chan's version references the Frank Capra one in the synopsis. Bollywood doesn't ever give credit to whatever they steal from!

Actually, there are some fairly decent movies coming out of India but really now-did you seriously expect Snoop Dogg to be in it? Really? This is a remake of the old Apple Annie story with Jack Lemon if I recall. You look it up. You want the tiles of some good movies that aren't Slumdog Millinaire? Try Tarre Zameen Par. Get out the kleenex first. Any Wednesday, is a must see. Delhi-6, score by AR Rahman,is also high on my list. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is a sweet film with Shahrukh Khan playing 2 parts, one, like his younger self, the other a much more understated mature older man. Charming. And just to round out the big stars,Jodha Akbar. It has Hrithik Roshan and Aishwaria Rai Bachhan. The score is by AR Raman. It only ripped off history.I have forced myself to watch each of these movies 3 or more times-cheerfully-and survived.

Note: Except for the sets of Jodha Akbar, which are historical and set in the desert in India (and they saved time and money by housing Hrithik Roshan's family and Ash's family in separate homes built for them on the grounds so they wouldn't have to commute) these films are shot locally in Mumbai or with green screen for Delhi-6 for safety. The music is simple in all of them. Only Jodha Akbar has a large dance number consisting of sufis /whirling dervishes. Shahrukh's dances are purposely gentle because the theme of the movie is that he will win his love "softly, softly."
