Award-winning filmmaker Deepa Mehta has teamed up with acclaimed Hollywood composer Mychael Danna to score for her forthcoming film Heaven on Earth that has Preity Zinta in the lead.

Written and directed by Deepa Mehta, the film is in Punjabi and has also cast actor Rajinder Singh Cheema opposite Preity. A social drama, it is the story of a young Indian woman (Chand) who faces an abusive arranged marriage with an Indo-Canadian man.
The film has Chand creating an alternative reality to survive in her new world. It explores the themes of imagination and mysticism combined with brutal domestic abuse. Seema Biswas will also be a part of the cast.

Reportedly, the story of Heaven on Earth has been inspired from Let’s Talk About It, a documentary Deepa had made on Indian women who become victims of domestic abuse in Canada.

“Deepa was very impressed by Mychael Danna’s compositions and she wanted him to compose for her film. Thankfully, things have worked out fine and he is scoring for the same. The film has a serious plot. Who better than Danny can do the music for the film?”

Mychael has composed music for films including the Oscar winning film Little Miss Sunshine, Copote that had Philip Seymour Hoffman, the animation movie Surf’s Up, Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair and the Angelina Jolie starrer Girl, Interrupted among others.
Canadian born Mychael has been scoring for films since his 1987 feature debut for Atom Egoyan’s Family Viewing, a score that earned him the first of his 13 Genie Award nominations.
