haha i am wondering as well! i LOVED center stage...i'll probably love this too if the plot revolves around ballet. actually, i'll probably love this because ethan stiefel is in it no matter what the plot is...

Apparently, the plot is about the main girl (idk her name, the only reason I care about this movie is Sarah Jayne Jensen) anyway, the main girl goes to this school and starts trying to bring hip-hop into the school, which makes all the ballet dancers mad. And Sarah Jayne plays Suzanne, who is like the rich snotty girl and the main girl starts hanging out with her boyfriend which makes her mad, things like that.

I wish it was a follow up of Jodie in Cooper's Company. That would be better.

i don't understand. none of the girls even look like ballerinas. i mean, they shouldn't look anorexic, but ballerinas are tiny. these girls are quite large.

reply

So Sarah Jayne is going to be like Amber in Hairspray? That's what it seems like to me with the part about the snobby girl's boyfriend hanging out with the main girl. It reminds me of when Link started hanging out with Tracy in Hairspray and Amber got mad.

Eva *hearts* James Marsden!

reply

Yeah, I think so. It's gonna be great

Its actually funny that you bring up Hairspray.

Sarah Jayne Jensen (main char in this movie)... she's in Hairspray.

She played Shelly in it... =) just a bit of random useless info

reply

Yeah...that's the whole reason I want to see this movie.

Oh my God. You've gotta be kidding me. That is almost exactly the same plot that was trotted out for the Save the Last Dance sequel last year (and it was pretty tired then). Maybe with the writer's strike they can't get new scripts written so they have to start recycling. Seriously, this same story line about the clash between hip-hop and ballet has been on constant repeat for the past ten years or so.
The last thing the dance world needs is another movie about how stuffy and boring ballet is and how hip-hop is SOOOOOO much better. I agree with the poster who said the film should follow Jodi and Cooper's company. The world needs to see ballet as an evolutionary dance form that is changing and expanding and making huge advances. It's not all about rows of girls in white tutus dancing to Tchaikovsky. I would love to see some of the hip-hop dancers out there try to pull a 180 arabesque balanced on a three inch toe platform. Technique, training and discipline are being hugely undervalued by popular culture in this country and I for one am tired of classically trained dancers not getting the respect they deserve. The first Center Stage showed the hard work, dedication and athletisim of ballet dancers while also displaying a juxtaposition between old and new. I think that if they really are persuing this whole ballet vs. hip-hop crap they're going to undercut everything that was great about the first film.

I really love the first movie but why do they want to ruin it by making a sequel and of course it doesn't even have the original actors.

reply

I completely agree with everything you say!

If I wanted to go see a movie about hip hop, I'd go see How She Move or all the others like it.

I'd also love to see cooper's company. Although I personally have no interest in seeing jodie because the actress who played her wasn't like... an amazing dancer or anything. At least not in her dancing scenes :T

I doubt highly that that will be the plot, the hip hop thing, because peter gallagher is doing it, so there will definately be mention of abc. I hope they bring julie kent back. I would LOVE to see stella abrera on the big screen, or maybe angel corella (he's so dreamy) they should do lots of famous dancer cameos, old and new :D

complaining again, are we? I'm telling you, just don't waste your time on the movie. Gosh, if all I'd ever had drilled into my head was ballet I'd probably not like any other form of dance either. Lucky that there is training for other forms of dance besides ballet. That way all the other dancers aren't just out of luck, untrained cretins, right? You know, some people train in more than one form of dance. Probably a lot of the same people who want to see this movie. Why don't you wait until it comes out of DVD if you want to see it so your complaints can at least have some merit. That way you won't be using up a ticket that could go to someone who wants to just appreciate the differences in dance and doesn't just want to go in to see it so they can whine about how they wasted their time and money.

reply

Really?????!!!!! Soooo, basically, it's the Step Up movie, but with different people. Lame. Without Charlie and Jodie, I don't think I'll like it. But I'll go see it anyway...I guess...

Okay, I know the general plot summary; hopefully you get the gist of it. So, the main girl, Kate's dream is to dance at ABA and become a professional ballerina and she's extremely determined, but hip hop is her passion. She practically begs to be admitted into ABA, but she doesn't have much luck. She doesn't make it when she first auditions; this rich, snooty girl, Suzanne (Sarah Jayne Jensen), makes it instead. Tommy (KENNY WORMALD) is Suzanne's Pas de Deux partner in ABA classes, and he's afraid to let his friends know that he does ballet. He also helps Kate in his spare time, so that she can become a better ballet dancer. She gets the opportunity to dance because of Tommy's help who then becomes her partner. Naturally, the selfish Suzanne is not happy with this new partnership. In the end Kate auditions again, and this time she makes it. And there you go, happily ever after...
So yeah, that's the main stuff.
*Side note: Cooper Neilson is back because his company lost all its money or something and that's why he's teaching at ABA again.

OH yeah, and I'm not sure what the ratio between hip hop and ballet will be, but I'm pretty positive it leans more towards ballet, but that should be obvious looking back at how the first movie was all about ballet and considering the fact that it revolves around this girl wanting to get into the American BALLET Academy. I do know, however, that there is going to be a main hip hop dance scene where there will be dance-off or something of the sort. Also, MISHA GABRIEL (an EXTREMELY talented dancer) will also be in this movie, as well as Lil C (the king of krump.) Anyways that's all I know; should be enough.

I know these ballet/hiphop dance movies have been played to death (Save the Last Dance, Step Up..etc), but I'm so excited for it! It's now my favorite movie eva just because KENNY WORMALD is in it! haha WATCH OUT FOR HIM! HE'S DOING BIG THINGS. =D

reply

Ahhhh I'm so excited to see Sarah Jayne. Like, crazy excited. She was amazing as Shelley in Hairspray. Does anyone know when this movie's supposed to come out?

I got to take a hip hop class with Sarah Jayne actually. The only thing I know about her is that she was in Hairspray, and I think some other show. Did she have a big part in Hairspray? I never watched it. Umm I'm not 100% positive, but this movie should be coming out approximately early summer.

reply

She was Shelley in Hairspray... she sang a song with two other characters, but didn't really have any speaking parts. She was wildly entertaining, though.

OMG! Are you kidding???

You've GOT to tell me about her. Please, please!

KR

reply

Haha you love her, don't you? Umm well I don't really have much to say to about her because well I only took the class with her; I didn't really talk to her much. I didn't even know who the hell she was! The teacher was Kenny, and when Kenny walked into the studio, he brought Misha (also in Center Stage 2) and Sarah Jayne with him, and he introduced them. I still didn't know who she was. I ended up googling her later. Anyways, I did tell her what the name of the song was because she didn't know, and she asked. But I think she really liked the song because she sang along to the hook a lot. The song was 'Can We Chill' by Ne-Yo. Because she came with Kenny, she got to stay in the front the whole time. I got to as well, and I basically danced beside Sarah Jayne the whole time. Umm she isn't a hip hop dancer, is she? Because to be honest with you, I didn't think she was very good at hip hop. She wasn't necessarily bad, but she wasn't good either. She didn't really stand out, even with her platinum blonde hair. But then again, no one really would have stood out to me, considering KENNY WORMALD was there lol. I am his biggest fan eva! Anywho, Sarah Jayne did tell me that she had a lot of fun during his class though, and I guess that's all that matters. Oh and she's a really tiny girl. Hope that's enough, 'cause that's all I got!

reply

Oh, wow, that's awesome, I'm SO insanely jealous, I love her! Thanks! That's so cool. Ahhh I'm soooo jealous, you lucky girl! Hehe!

KR

reply

Haha okay, you really do love her! You sound the same as when I talk about Kenny haha. Now you really make me want to watch Hairspray. I've been meaning to watch that anyways since Nick Baga is in it. =) Anywho, anything else I should see of Sarah Jayne? Maybe I'll really start to like her too. =P

reply

Haha, um, she was in an episode of Pushing Daisies...she's not in very much. Mostly I love her because my friend and I reallllly love Hairspray, and we love Shelley, so that's where it started. She's awesome! :D

I personally think that the mixture of hip hop and ballet is absolutely fantastic. Ballet was always a rather elitist sport, with you having to be a certain height, a certain weight, and have a certain look to suceed. However with hip hop its about the movement, and it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, you can do it. So i think that the transition between the two styles of dances is awesome, because it mixes freedom with dicipline (contradicting statements I know, but u get me).So i say, bring on center stage 2 and if its crap, then so be it, but its just trying to fit a certain demographic, and that demographic is younf, free-thinking, modernistic people.
