black was almost a frame by frame copy of 'The Miracle Worker'. They changed around a few characters and minor situational details, but it was basically the same movie. Amitabh was Anne Sullivan, except they made him a male, and he wasn't partially blind like her. The performances were top notch...especially the person who played the young girl...but in no way did the movie have any 'depth'.
I actually enjoyed Gangster...a lot. Very well acted, and generally well made movie. But again, its was most definitely 'inspired' by another film since it was written by the great Mahesh Bhatt; the same guy who made 'Raaz' aka What Lies Beneath or 'Murder' aka Unfaithful. He's just not capable of coming up with an original idea, in fact its rare that any Indians come up with original ideas. Its like they watch HBO when they need 'inspiration' and then jot down some notes about a random Hollywood movie and adapt it for the Indian Film Industry.
Hindi movies are simply entertainment, nothing else...you can't possibly say they have more depth than most hollywood movies, because they're all adapted from hollywood movies. The last original Indian movie I can remember seeing is Munnah Bhai.
By the way, most Hollywood actors do commercials and cameos in foreign movies because they make millions for a day or two of work and they are never watched by the American public. Search youtube for Japanese commercials with Hollywood stars. Arnold got 2 million to appear in a 90s Japanese energy drink commercial that he shot in less than a couple of hours, i'm sure he's getting paid more for his cameo in this movie. If they signed on to do big studio projects, they would get bigger sums of money, but they would also be tied down for a few months. To think that the stars in Kambakkht Ishq are doing it because bollywood movies have 'depth' is ludacris.
