reply

Awsome, I hope this is true. Stallone and Akshay in the same movie = WIN.

reply

yea thats true..the producer sahid nadiawala confirmed himself

reply

i heard Denise Richards in going to be in it too.

reply

dont get too exicited, sly is in it for a few shots, denise on the other hand it seems has a bit more role playing the hollywood vixen intent on destroying the hero's relation with the herione

This is YOUR LIFE and it is ending one minute at a time!

reply

Actually, I think Sly signing this, even for a cameo is a tragedy...! C'mon!...We are talking Hollywood, a legendary movie industry...tahts long stood for merit, creativity and talent, and then tehre's crappy bolly....with children of some movie stars workingout some masala crap..or whatever they call it!...
I feel whoever has signed it shouldnt have...its a tragedy...theyve gone just for the money...

reply

[deleted]

It's most likely going to be a cameo, and it's probably going to feel as wrong as Taxi 3.

reply

I cant even begin to explain how wrong and quite ignorant the both of you are!

First of all, Hollywood is no long a stamp of quality in the industry. There are many and will be more fantastic movies from 'Hollywood' but there is a hell of a lot more crap! On many occasions, original scripts or original movies are stained with an awful remake from some useless director with a bigger budget. Anyway this is a topic that could be argued for eternity, so I wont go on.

The other point that you both made about Bollywood is such an uneducated response. Bollywood is a complete different style of film. One that is not pressured to have more shooting and explosions and is enjoyed by millions upon millions of people. Again, a topic that could be discussed a lot further than my rant.

reply

[deleted]

Yours is overtly one sided view...80% hollywood produtions these days are craps..You must have watched a lot of classics and said Hollywood is the zenith but the matter of fact is they produce as much crap as bollywood does..
Why dont you understand that Bollywood caters to an audience who accept cinema as such..But over the years as the audience have broaden their outlook so have bollywood cinema...Now dont tell me to name Hollywood craps coz that would make me write a full fledged book..

Van damme is in it too!!!! 80`s

swades, that film is awesome.

there are good and original bollywood movies out there but i will say the majority of the movies that are released are just sh!t. sing is kinng being the latest example, an attempt to copy jackie chan's miracles (1989) and they even messed that up.

all bollywood needs for a film to be a blockbuster is to put a well known actor + actress + film it in a foreign country + have retarded and over the top action in it et vola, it becomes a blockbuster, everyone goes crazy over it.

its a shame really, storytelling is put at the bottom of the list in most movies, if at all, on the list.

anyway, i can't remember wat i wanted to say, o yeah, there are a few good bollywood movies out there..

p.s vanilla sky is a remake of a spanish movie called "open your eyes".

reply

dude you asked for one....I'll tell you many....Lagaan(2001), Jodha Akbar (2008), Johnny Gaddar (2007), Rang de Basanthi(2006), Mission Kashmir(2000), Parinda (1989), Aankhen (2002), Gulaal (2009), Don(2006), Company(2002), look I can go on and on...the point is Bollywood has made a lot of crap movies but it has also made some of the best movies out there as well...you just have to know which ones to watch....they are usually not that popular with the indian audience...so just chill man....much of hollywood is crap too...for instance the recent movie Taken is worse than the hindi movie Kidnap(2008) which released before that. Kidnap is a lot better movie than Taken but most people watched Taken because they think it's hollywood and it's somehow good...wrong....

reply

To say that it is just for the money is basically stating the obvious.

reply

guys dont heat up plz!!!
first of all bollywood and hollywood both have a 360 degree kind of doing things.meaning they r both different.

second, who said bollywood's crap?excuse me!!just sit down and first come out of holly zone there r better world movies than hollywood in which bollywood stand out the rest thats the reason it makes more money than holly.it has brillions viewers worldwide.

and as for rocky hero!!well he is not stupid like u guys who flavor only english movies just cause u r born english!!! he could have signed an unknown laughuage movie also with high fees but bollywood is something different for him so he chose that...

bollwood movies rules the UK and USA markets, specially UK where bollywood releases earn more that their natives movies (british that is)

bbc has a fully radio station for bollywood in europe....

IF U DONT LIKE SONG AND DANCE IN HINDI FLIMS..THAN WHY U LISTEN AND DOWNLOAD THEM AND GO CLUBBING???!!!!!

"Ive been to many places round the globe with relation to films and trust me, apart from your average indian or pakistani cab driver nobody would even recognize sharook khan(tom cruise of india eh?right)"
I have been to quite a few places around the globe, and people do know of SRK or Amitabh Bachchan.
Although I do agree they are not as popular as Hollywood stars.

"put it simply bollywood production houses cannot afford tom cruise's breakfast !"
Isnt tom cruise a bad example.I mean there are many highly paid(and far far better) actors than him in Hollywood.

"i don't think your hindi stars make that much in their lifetime"
Ofcourse they dont.We are a poor nation.A manager in certain bank in certain part of India will never make as much money as his counterpart in US.There is no point bringing in the issue of money.

Dude,I am not a big Bollywood fan, infact I cant even remember the last hindi movie I saw, but your branding Bollywood as bollysh.i.t is unnecessarily disrespectful.

Moreover I do agree with other posters that Hollywood does churn out its share of crap.Moving on to the issue of Sly acting in a Hindi movie, No I do not think its demeaning for him.If he is getting paid his desired amount then you can bet your ass he will act in any movie. If big names like Al pacino and Robert De Niro can tarnish their image by acting in C grade flicks like 88 minutes and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle(clearly for money), then they might as well work in Bollywood.

India(and bollywood) are going global, and we should be happy for this.

"did you check out the previous poster's comment?
I mean he is plain clueless !"
Yes, I did read other comments and I agree he was quite wrong. But then again I can understand if he got a little carried away. You see I face this kind of criticism all the time.I love World cinema(essentially spanish and french). Most people term my inclination as arrogance or typical-wannabe-behaviour.Its always difficult to talk sense into them.

As for me.Yes I am an Indian, staying in New Delhi.I am 23 and juggle work, movies and studies.

What about you??Are you an NRI? What do you do?

[deleted]

"I hate the term NRI "
Sorry. It was just a harmless question.

"I get up,eat..then watch movies,do research on the net..eat...watch movies, get drunk and go to bed....yeah thats my routine since the last 1 year at least."
Damn..I envy you man.

"Hey i got some satyajit ray movies so if you are curious "
Of course I am.I am dying to see his work man.I keep ranting about directors from all across the world but have no clue about the genius from my country.

"You got a group of people who have this love for cinema "
Yeah,I have a few friends who share pretty much the same interests.Lately we all have been busy with work and all, but our conversations are essentially over movies/directors et all.

I keep visiting Mumbai pretty often too.I have some relatives in Raheja vihar.
I love Mumbai, just love the pace and smell of that place.

You are right,I do have that security advantage man, but I am sure I will get into this line(or theatre) someday.
You gave up on management, I will be going for management next year.

Ya dude,its management quite seriously.
I have grown up in a family of MBA's.I have always wanted to do get this degree.
You know, I am way too practical to be creative(Dunno if that makes sense)
I love movies,I dream to make(and act in) one.But its the business, or tie(lol) which really beckons me.
Making a movie, is like my wildest/craziest fantasy.

I am not a big fan of James Cameron(although I loved T-2..Just love this movie)
but I found his auto pretty impressive. His words - "I couldn't see myself as a future film director. In fact, there was a definite feeling on my part that those people were somehow born into it, almost like a caste system." - are really buzzing in my head right now.

Hey,who knows, ten years from now,I might be the producer of your movie(lol).

Anyways, who are your favourite directors across the world??

"typical indian crowd wont do the film any justice"
Sad but true.I cant imagine a movie like lost highway or pulp fiction making any money at the box office.I really dont think we will ever grow beyond the normal family movie routine, though a few movies coming out of this genre are actually good.
Among Indians, I like gowarikar(I feel the same about swades and SRK).
I also like Bhanasali for his opulence.I loved the sets of all his movies.
I like farhan akhtar for his young outllook(loved DCH,liked lakshya, not keen on rock on though).I liked Ram gopal verma for some of his earlier works, but for past 5-6 years he had been extremely irritating(I love rangeela).
There are quite a few one movie wonders in Bollywood I can think of.

As for Kubrick,he was a genius.I loved the shining and eyes wide shut.I loved his treatment of these movies.A clockwork orange was a masterpiece but I found the violence and the overall crazy feel of the movie a bit disturbing for my taste. But its easy to see he was a perfectionist. You watch any of his movies, take out any scene, and you know there is no way anyone else could have done a better job.One of those people who kept going for take after take to get that one perfect shot.

"movies of the 50's,60's and 70's"
I have seen a few movies of that period, and simply loved them.
Koshish was brilliant.Sanjeev Kumar was one of the greatest actors of bollywood.Apart from that I can think of Guide, what an awesome concept for a movie that old.I honestly think that movies were way better in that period.
I simply adored Hrishikesh mukherhee. His movies like Anand, bawarchi, abhimaan, chupke chupke, golmal were masterpieces.I cant think of any other director in Bollywood to have created such timeless magic.

"lets see if you know what i am talkin bout-Rob ager...ring a bell?"
Umm..no dude,I am afraid I dont know about this one.Who is rob ager?

Jesus this rice muncher (rishimassionpovies) has a bloody attitude, then again if i had to put up with what he has to put up with in a country like that I'd probably be the same.

Bollywood and Hollywood are both completely different, End of *beep* story.

Jesus, i didn't know Indians had movie critics so far up their own asses like English countries....

I love my movies, and both make top quality performances, Of course Hollywood is probably going to make better movies, But stiff *beep* Leave people to their own opinions, jesus christ....

[deleted]

I am indian and yes i enjoy watching hindi movies occasionally but yes almost all bollywood movies are pieces of garbage that you can only sit through once, all the mocies are exactly the same and always end in the same way. How can you respect a movie which blatantly rips off hollywood movies i mean *beep*! BLATANT RIP OFFS i cant *beep* stand it, its shameful. I mean there is not one unique intelligent bollywood movie that either isnt the same old garbage recycled in some new way or some overly pretentious action flick where the definition of cool is a bunch of overpaid actors wearing waistcoats and sunglasses walking in slow motion. I mean bollywood is not a serious industry and the average moviegoer isnt the wiser because they dont know anything other than akshay kumar and his *beep* Oh yeah and please dont give me that *beep* about the 60's and 70's and *beep* because they were all copies of spaghetti westerns and hollywood westerns alike. When i was a kid my dad used to tell me stories about old westerns like butch cassidy, dirty dozen, mckennas gold... old war and western movies, when i saw a bunch of them i couldnt help but see that the great "sholay" was nothing but a rehash of some of these films. I mean the only thing i used to respect bollywood was for its innocence and individuality, i mean sure kuch kuch hota hai was some predictable crap but i mean i liked it. Now days all i see is akshay kumar or anil kapoor or some other guy wearing huge sunglasses with explosions all around him, i mean as i said before bollywood has become nothing but *beep* over pretentious crap.

Bollywood can never even be compared to hollywood, nor can any other cineman in the world, you can act like a pseudo film buff and say ooh i like spanish and french cinema but in reality theyre nothing in fron of hollywood either, all copies. You can find the occassional hollywood film which is based on some other unknown foreign fulm but ultimately hollywood is #1 by a million miles.

Try this, try naming one utterly unique ingenious bollywood film, even one.

Something like star wars, 2001, godfather, gladiator, rainman, jerry maguire, usual suspects, la confidential, rocky, snatch to name a few quick ones off the top of my head.

I tried make the list as diverse as possible.

So yeah, Chew on that.

reply

Here are 10 of the best(recent)bollywood movies I've watched.None of them are copied *beep*.
To all those who criticize bollywood movies, watch any one of these movies.
We'll see what you have to say after that.

1) Dil Chahta Hai
2) Taare Zameen Par
3) Lagaan(oscar nominated)
4) Satya
5) Black Friday
6) Chak De India
7) 3 Deewarein
8) Being Cyrus(English)
9) Rang De Basanti
10) Swades

Hollywood makes *beep* movies too.Movies like Date Movie,Epic Movie,Meet The Spartans,Disaster Movie and those crappy teen horror flicks.
I guess Americans love these kind of movies, which is why they keep producing such *beep*!
American humour is also full of fart jokes, poop, vomit and stuff.
They can't produce movies with witty, clean humour like the British.
Its the same toilet humour in all their comedy films.

reply

"Movies like Date Movie,Epic Movie,Meet The Spartans,Disaster Movie and those crappy teen horror flicks."

All those comedies are from the same people. Hardly representative of other filmmakers. And those teen horror flicks are such a small portion of our box office... there's a reason movies like The Ring greatly outstrip movies like Prom Night. As for your ascertation that Americans can't produce movies with witty humor... you conveniently ignore the movement towards independent-style movies such as Garden State and Stranger Than Fiction. If you're not American, get some perspective. If you are an American, lose the extreme cynicism. Bemoaning the lowest common denominator in Hollywood without acknowledging the higher art it produces is misleading and no better than mudslinging political propaganda.

reply

I am sorry to repeat the same things but why do my Indian posters here forget that they just can not compare anything to hollywood. You all know it that indian movies are always trying to get the same look and feel as of the hollywood movies but the truth is they never really get even close. I would say as much as that they probably dont even get closer to the action and stunts in the Scary Movies, date movies etc. I am saying this all by looking at the biggest grossing movie in bolywood the one the only Dhoom2. All indian viewers made that movie the top grossing and then even went on saying that hollywood should take pointers from bollywood stunt sequences. Where? How? Why?

Unless they want to ruin the movie completely yeah then sure why not. Although the fact remains that bollywood does not have the money to bring that standard in movies so y make it cartoonish? Y cant they just admit it and do something that they can make beleivable?? they did that in the past and everyone has liked it. even i did as well but y try copyin when in their own self they can do much better.

And another thing i would like to see happen is us indians taking criticism with balls and admit where we are wrong. Apparently that does not work out ever, way too much ego and patriotism man. The ration of good to crap movies is about 30 to 70 in hollywood as just handful of them are worth watching. While that ratio is just around 2 to 98 at best when it comes to bollywood. Viewers need to open their eyes to good cinema. Stop being pleased with what ever is thrown at you. THere is nothing anyone would say change the fact that bolly movies are getting worse...look at them, tashan, singh is king, ugly or pagli, garam masala...where is any element to these movies at all. Is it just me who feels like these kinda movies are insult to their viewers intelligence? WHen are you guys gonna open your eyes???

Raj
