Because one of the twists is who the main character will be and since this takes place between saw 1 and saw 2 Doctor Gordon is the only person still alive from 1 to be in the game. And also it takes place in an asylum and doctor gordon seemed to go a little crazy by the end of Saw 1 so he probably got put in an insane asylum. What do you all think?

sure he will be the final test of former detective Tapp and somehow the cops will recover Tapp's body and he will be believed to have been a fallen coop victim of Jigsaw.
sharei reckon that the asylum will explode or burn down and david will survive and run away with the police assuming that he's died though dr.gordon fate i reckon will never be shown becasue of the irony that is nobody ever knowing what really happened to him meaning he'll just have vanished like jigsaw wanted.
