So is this really a remake (same stories, couples, etc.), or continuation

I didn't watch the original so I can't tell, but is it really a remake of the original (same stories, new actors) or is it more like a continuation of a story of a cupid. Or maybe it's more like a Star trek The next generation as a spin off of the original?
How did the original end, did he get back to the Olymp and married the "human" woman?

It's a remake. And the original, was so much better.

It's a little early to tell, though. My main bone of contention is that Paula Marshall is SOOOOO much cuter than Sarah Paulson. I also miss the original theme song.

I just watched a pilot on you tube of the original "cupid". It was almost exactly the same as the new "cupid" pilot.
Now I think, that the new version is actually better then the old one. I think that people do feel sentimental about the series, that's why the bad feeling towards new series. Now like I've said since the new "cupid" was the first one I saw, so I believe that this one is better. I just don't have fully developed bias yet.

Thank you! I also watched the original pilot, and I also think the new one is better as well!

It's a 'reworking.' The major story arc is the same, but episodic arcs are entirely different. Different couples are being matched. Also, the original focused much more on Trevor co-oping the Doctor's singles group.

And, yes, the original is better. This still has Rob Thomas' brilliant dialog, but Bobby Cannavale is no Jeremy Piven. They both have plenty of charisma, but Cannavale can't act.

The original casting was much better. Both Paula Marshall and Jeremy Piven are much more dynamic actors. Cannavale seems more manic, like he can only grab screen time when he's being loud, and Sarah Paulson seems passive and stiff. Paula Marshall and Jeremy Piven seemed to banter and bicker very naturally; the rapid-fire dialog is well suited to them. I'm not seeing the same quality delivery in Sarah Paulson and Bobby Cannavale, and I think that's affecting the dialog. The writing in the old series seemed much snappier to me, and I think it's getting colored by the different styles of the leads.

The first episodes of both are the closest in storyline. If you like the second series version better, cool. For mine (and I rewatched it last week), I think the original pilot is several times better. But that's me.

Paula Marshall... yes! I can't believe I forgot about her. Temporary Pivcentricity. I have to admit that I didn't really fall in love with Paula until Gary Unmarried, but, now that I think about it, a lot of the spunk she has on Gary, she had on Cupid, and yes, the chemistry was much stronger.

You should watch all 15 eps of the original on youtube. Fantastic show, the remake doesn't even compare.
