Book vs Movie

Read the book a few times, enjoy the story. Watch the movie first time last night and I can see from other posts how confusing the movie is. Only a very few books have transcended into a movie to their credit, most don't. Reason being if we were to follow the book, the movie would have to be hours long to get the nuance of the story. Don't read any further as there maybe spoilers:

i found the plot was lost when Jill and Derek lived in a beautiful home. Book: it was a very small apartment (rented). Jill had to work. The tension was because Elaine got the house and child support left little money for Jill and Derek/David to live on. Nicole was a very manipulative vixen. Not trampy. Smart, savvy and had a game plan to win David/Derek, played David to the hilt to his ego. Jill started to work out they were having an affair because he was doing exactly what he did to Elaine when they were having an affair. The section of Bonnie and Stan/Dan went into more detail and was entwined into the story because it got Jill back into TV. the part of finding the son as a priest is a bit odd. I would have thought if that was the case he would have been in touch with his. Mother. Book: he joined the Hari Krishnas. He left home because of his father and unhappy childhood. Elaine and Derek/David's daughter was a manipulative brat who also happened to be anorexic. Another wedge into Jill and Derek/David's marriage. Read the book, it will explain a lot.
