I'm a very sensitive bull terrier owner who loved the original short film this is inspired in. But Burton's scripts (or his movie's) got weaker and weaker over the years and his films always loose me before the climax. It's a real shame. I was expecting to be very moved by Frankenweenie, but it just bored me.

but those movies you mentioned had a lot of heart and charm that this did not. this felt cold, soulless and by the numbers.
The story was okay but i didn't really care for anyone in the movie except the dog and victor.
at least in those other movies (or Edward) you felt the characters were real. here they felt like lifeless cardboard cutouts. I do think Burton lost some of the humanity he brought to his earlier movies. This movie feels tired. feels hollow.

the parents were just... there for example. Compare that to the parents in Beetlejuice or even Edward Scissorhands, they were more present and had more personality.

It wasn't about Victor's relationship with his parents.
Unlike those other films
They had personalities...they were just a bit subtly developed and not overly highlighted. His mother is a calm, quiet, understanding, sweet, nurturing, quaint type. She doesn't really have a problem with Victor's lack of friends outside of Sparky, and the way he spends all his time in the attic researching, studying science, experimenting, inventing things, or making Sparky movies in the yard. His father is also very caring, but more outgoing and less intuitive or sympathetic. He's the travel agent who's used to working out conflicts between people in ways that actually don't get either person what they wanted. He's only willing to let his son participate in the science fair if he also agrees to try out for the baseball team--and he reacts much more strongly to Sparky's resurrection than Victor's mom does.

Netnel, Burton never really had it. Dont get me wrong, Nightmare Before Christmas was good, but the rest of his work sucked. I personally think it was good, until they started resurrecting the other dead animals, then it became lame.

Tim directed a Pee Wee movie but it wasn't 'his' movie. Some films are a producers vision and Henry was hired to make a Tim Burton movie and nothing else.
He also co wrote the songs with Danny, production design and many other things.
Selick re-wrote some of the dialog and worked out the animation and general director duties but he was never in control of the film. He didn't have anything to do with the music, in fact he didn't want so many songs, and his hands were tied with the art department, he was working to a specification, a commission jobbie.
So Burton should get credit for Nightmare, it's his movie, always has been and always will be.
Although I guess the average viewer like yourself wouldn't know theses things, best not to run your mouth about a subject you know very little about
