Half of the People in my Theater Walked Out

In total there were only six people in the theater (It was a 3:15 showing on Friday), my girlfriend and I, an older man, a 40ish year old woman, and a mother and son. The mother and son left rather early, while the other woman left a bit past half-way through. While the movie was only kind of average to me, I hardly thought it was bad enough to be walked out on. Have any of you had this happen in your theater?

Just for Cosmopolis, understandably so. Talk about the most inaccessible, anti-palatable movie ever!

Say what?

Just saw it and no one walked out

reply

I saw "SAW 6" back in 2009, and walked out.

reply

I don't think this is the type of movie where people should walk out. I liked it, it had problems but it was nice.

People walked out of Silent Hill 2. but that movie is the worst movie Ive ever seen.
People also walked out of the Matrix Revolutions,

I personally fell sleep with The Last Samurai and I walked out of the Hulk 2003 movie,

I'll look down, and whisper no

if Silent Hill 2 is the worst movie you saw you really got no comparison scale to go about. ive seen movies that would make SH2 a masterpiece.

give me some names?

And, I don't go looking for bad movies on purpose. I don't like to waste time on bad movies like SciFi channel B movies.
I am sure there are a lot worse like Sharknado, but as far as horror Silent Hill 2 is really really bad. Like, so bad I wish I never see it again bad

right....

all 3 of those (i know worse ones but they arent listed on IMDB even) will make SH2 look like masterpiece in comparison.

Scifi B-movies isnt even close, this is as low in Z-grade as you go.

I watch a lot of horror, including bad horror, and trust me, there are many far worse movies. and if you dont trust me, you can do your own research, but you already said you dont like wasting time. so take it from someone that does.

And i didn't walk out. lol

actually when I Went to see Hugo in 3D I was the only person in the theater, no one else,
the worst thing is that I pay for another movie but I was late for that movie so I changed my mind and waited for Hugo, I was already too late, and when the movie started there was not a soul in that theater...

I really loved hugo too, such a magical movie

I'll look down, and whisper no

I saw Life of Pi last year, and I was alone in the theater: Dolby Atmos, huge screen, FIRST projection!! I was kinda shocked :) but it was my best cinema experience like, ever (or was it Inception? 2001?)

reply

I went to see Mama on Friday and I was alone in the theatre too, lol. I went to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and about 5 people walked out. But they were teenagers who were disrupting everyone so who cares, lol.

I saw "Beloved" in 1998, and a lot of people walked out of that movie in droves.

you should have shot those teenagers. there is frankly few things i find more depressing than people who're perfectly happy to ruin a flick for everybody else there. although...

i do remember watching "the mummy returns" in summer 2001. some teenagers would start yelling during the previews. during a silence in between two previews, one of them started howling something. in the back row my friend next to me had enough, and yelled "SHUT THE #### UP!" at the top of his lungs. the place erupted in spontaneous applause.

funny how that got such a positive reaction, while those other kids in the front got nothing but disdain. a case of the ends justifying the means? just another ###hole kid treating the theatre like a playground?? you decide, but i thought it was pretty god#### hilarious despite of myself. (we were 13)

and how about people stuffing their gaping maws with popcorn, as if they're in contests for both noise AND speed-eating. or taking off their shoes. or texting. basically using the joint like their living rooms. you know, its really a wonder why theatre attendance is way down these days, while VOD is growing exponentially in popularity??

I like how you say half of the people in your theater walked out as a subject title, then in your message you say there were only 6 people, making it only 3 people walking out. Why did you even bother to post this? It would've been post-worthy had you said a better number like 20-30 people at least.

reply

When I saw Fankenweenie in the theatre was pretty full and I didn't see anyone walk out -- On the other hand, I loved the movie so much I wasn't paying any attention to people walking out.

reply

Is this more of an american thing? Whenever I hear people saying they walked out, it's almost always americans on these boards. I've been to the cinema loads and I don't think I've ever seen a British person walk out.

It's hyperbole.

Its Hyperbole 101 on imdb.

On almost every popular movie you will find a thread just like this one.. Did it really happen? Maybe, Maybe not. We will never know.

This thread is as cliche as the "Worst movie ever", "Looks like [insert movie/person here], and This is a ripoff of [insert random movie here]" threads.

Do people really walk out?
I live in Sweden, gone the cinema loads of times and seen both good and bad. Not once did people walk out.
I have also been to the cinema abroad, like the U.K, Malta, Croatia, Spain and Italy. Never once did people walk out.
Yet many, mostly Americans, proudly announces that they walked out for various reasons.

So is this something that happens or is it just something people writes to get attention?
I am guessing that if it happened it probably is "dramaqueens" who wants a bit of attention and then goes on here to announce they walked out to get some more attention.

Or it could be that no one walks out but people post it either way to get attention.

reply

I've never witness it here in the uk, unless someone's kids has gotten too scared or some other incident pulls them away. But nobody tends to walk out because it's 'bad'

Most of theses Americans who claim to have walked put probably never went in the first place. .

reply

That's rather interesting that it's uncommon in europe, because people really do walk out here in the US. I've witnessed several instances where someone seemed upset with a movie and walked out in either anger, disgust, or disappointment. I, myself, have done it as well, the last movie being the expendables. Rather than going home though, I would just go to a different movie. I'd say it's a fair trade, since I paid to at least see one movie.

This is not the greatest signature in the world. This is just a tribute.

reply

But then we're not as over dramatic as you guys.

reply

> Most of theses Americans who claim to have walked put probably never went in the first place. .

In America, most theaters are mega-24-plexes. So, if you start to watch a movie and it really isn't all that thrilling to you for whatever reason, it's no big deal to walk out and then pop into a different movie theater.

So, people really do walk out all the time.

My best friend and I consider ourselves avid movie-goers, and we are Brits. The only movie we have ever walked out of was "Vampires Suck". It was honestly unbearable. We ended up seeing "Charlie St Cloud" instead, which was slightly more palatable.

I've been a few movies in my day, and even though some were really bad I've never walked out on one. I can get my kicks mst3k style if it sucks.

I assume that would be the bottom half of the people.
