The REAL reason why Chris couldn't get a business loan

is because he was dressed in dusty overalls!! It also seemed like he didn't present a business plan either. I know this is just a movie and certain elements lack importance and you have to "suspend belief" occasionally. But c'mon! Chris was never dressed professionally for the meetings and he went around to his current employers competition for startup money..wth? I thought Perry was being a bit unfair to Andrea by laying the blame for Chris's lack of progress at her feet. If he would have made Chris a more fully developed character then I would have been able to see why we, as the audience, might have blamed Andrea for his troubles, but as is,all I see is that Chris should have stepped up to the plate and presented himself in a more professional manner.

That's true! I don't even remember if he had an appointment or not. Maybe because he thought that William was nice & wouldn't care what he looked like, that he could go in there any way that he wanted. Still business is business & should be treated as such.

I would have to admit that, although he did garner some sympathy, Chris was a pretty pitiful character. I also don't think he ever really showed that he had a business plan of any substance, which made his persistence even more irritating. The script should have developed him a little more, maybe to show that he truly did have some good and original business ideas, and that he deserved a break. Instead, we feel that he is kind of a fool, and I even thought he was kind of a jerk for taking all of his wife's money out of the account and investing it in his seemingly empty-headed business "venture". I don't think I would have given him a loan if I had been in that position, either! However, in the end, the way the story played out was very satisfying, even if it wasn't totally convincing at all times. Tyler Perry is an excellent talent, and I truly hope he goes on making films of this caliber. BRAVO!!!

That's what I was thinking. The least he could have done was wear a business suit, hell just rent one for the interview.

My grandparents got a business loan because they were smart enough to be professional. And they are black like he is and are very successful.

Warner Music Group Sucks!

reply

I think that was one of the underlying points of the film.

He walked up into the bank looking like he just fell off the back of a truck and EXPECTS to be handed over a ton of money because he has an IDEA.

SO many others in real life act and think this way.

reply

All the people who received loans for internet companies in the 90's were very well dressed and developed well thought out business plans. They are all bankrupt now!

reply

He & Ben went, to the bank, on their lunch break. I think that's why they were dressed the way that they were. I think that they could have stopped to change first though. Chris had a good business dream even though his plan might have not been that great. Sometimes all it takes is a dream. A lot of people make their millions on their dreams. Andrea should have been smart to know that!

reply

I agree. He was also very unorganized and didn't know how to talk/explain his plan.

reply

I think they trying to get the point of his wife should have helped him with that. He doesn't have the professional background like she does, but his was passionate. I think if she would of believed in him she could have helped with the professional side of things. That's what I think anyways.

I dont blame the loan officer for not giving him a time of day. Totally unprofessional and he must have stunk really badly.

reply

Exactly! That's why Chris said, "We're a team, right?" After that hoe got made he took her hoeing money lol. They were never a team and she deserved that for making him go it alone in that marriage. Notice how her played out behind says the same thing to William when he's trying to get away from her after being fired..."We can start our own company??". But just like she played Chris, William used her. They were all "preying" on one another.

Love is the answer...but bring the extra clip in-case.

reply

Well said! She was William's whore not his lover. I felt so bad for Chris when he was trying to tell Andrea that they were going to go in business for themselves & they were in this together. And look what happened at the end. HE got his company & she didn't get either man.

reply

You are right, but they were on their lunch, they had to go back to work right after, and he DID have his proposal and plan with him. The loan officer did not want to see it.

reply

Andrea had no obligation to help him. He would have run any business into the ground. The only thing he was good at was being stupid and being a chump. On top of that, he was a coward and a thief. I had zero respect for him. He didn't even seem like a real man at all.

reply

I agree. It was hard to have any sympathy for William for those exact reasons. The thing that got me is his coming to William asking for a loan so that he can start a business that would be in competition with Cartwright's. Chris was not too bright.

reply

Very late to this little party, but the character used up ALL the money "sending deposits," and it was all gone...leaving nothing for working capital? Andrea was not a nice person, but when he just took the money and spent it on his questionable pipe dream, without discussing it with her, that was just wrong. Chances are he had a weak business plan and the business doomed from the onset. Having a dream is nice; everyone has dreams. But not all dreams come true; not all dreamers are capable of making them come to fruition. It takes savvy; Chris had NONE.
