Male damsels in distress. Female knights in frilly armour. It's so contrived it totally ruins everything....and it's gotten way out of hand in the last few years. It was a good idea, FOR A BIT, THIRTY YEARS AGO, but it needs to stop now especially since it seems to have become the default.

If I had to guess- might be because we've seen a man as the hero since pretty much the dawn of film making. Only in very recent years have women had their chance to shine that way.
