Please tell me it gets better.

I'm watching The Guild on Netflix right now, and it's making me cringe more than laugh. I haven't even laughed once. I'm 30 minutes into the pilot with 13 minutes left. Does it get better? So far it's just, bad, like really bad.

Ok, so each episode is like 5 minutes long? A whole season is equivalent to 3 episodes of another show? Ok, so anyway, I'm on "season" 2, I still dont like it, but it's better than "season" 1. Maybe I'll like it by "season" 3, I might laugh by "season"5, and by the time I'm really beginning to get into, it'll end, lol.

Interesting enough not to watch something else. For now.

Your series of reactions was exactly like mine, LOL! By the end of the show, I had fallen in love with the characters and was sad it was over. Good thing is Felicia Day said in an interview that it's possible she might resurrect the story, just in a different, more polished way.

reply

Why would she resurrect the story? It's not like it's dead, just over.

I'm not into the culture of gaming but I just watched season one and I like the jokes and energy of the show.

As you've discovered by now, the show really is about getting to know and love the characters. I feel like season 1, you really HAVE to be into gaming to really get the jokes and be into it. Season 2, less so, and by seasons 3 and 4, anybody can like it.

However, once you've fallen in love with the show, I'd suggest going back and watching the whole thing again. I have a feeling you'll like seasons 1 and 2 a lot more.

Your mileage may vary. Everyone is likely to have different experiences. It does get better after the first season. Personally I loved the first season, but looking at it now, I realize that,,,,,,,, Well it's hard to explain, but it's a different experience. The humor and pacing,,,,,,,, It hit the right spots on first airing from the way that it was a web show and really just before web shows were mainstream entertainment. So the feel was completely different from what you'd expect from a television show or video. Watching it now on netflix or on DVD, it seems weird. It's a whole different experience than what I had when it was just an internet show doled out in 5 minute chunks. It's weird that the same exact show can be so completely different just by the medium I experience it on.

But anyway, it does get closer to what one would expect from a show or video style as opposed to web series, while keeping the same theme (It's still not going to be confused for a prime time sitcom) as it gets into further seasons. Partly due to having a bigger budget and also finding their footing as opposed to the first season feeling more experimental. The jokes are cute or clever, but probably not laugh out loud.

To Love and win is the best thing. To Love and lose, the next best.
