The Ending (spoilers)

Ok so I liked this movie but what I can't figure out is why Summer's fate is worse than Clark's. I mean, there were no more bullets in the gun so she couldn't shoot herself. Is she just going to die of starvation and thirst? Yuck. Nasty way to go. I guess she could use one of those rusty knives to do herself in. Is apathy a worse sin than sexually abusing a child?
