This sounds different from the book ...

So its been quite awhile since I read "Sammy's Hill", but the only thing this synopsis sounds like it has in common with it is that both lead characters are named "Sammy Joyce". Is it just me or does this sound completely different from the book? Maybe I need to re-read it again.

I don't think it's based on the book Sammy's Hill, which as you know is a story similar to Bridget Jones Diary only it's set in Washington.

The author of the book is the same person as the screenwriter here (Kristen Gore). I'm not even sure that's the name of the character in this film, it could be that imdb just got their facts messed up. But if it is it's probably because she identifies with the original character. It would be weird though because the rights to Sammy's Hill has been bought by Columbia Pictures.

So who knows.

I guess I'm just disappointed that this is maybe what they've chosen to do instead of sticking with the book. I loved "Sammy's Hill" and I think its storyline sounds alot better than this. I guess they didn't want to be accused of copying "Bridget Jones Diary" too much, but considering the book was released ages ago I think that is really a non-issue. I mean its not like you see with some tv shows (Lipstick Jungle & Cashmere Mafia or ER and Chicago Hope, etc ... that are similar that are released around the same time) ... there has been more than enough time between the releases that as I said this really shouldn't be an issue. I don't know, maybe they just thought this sounded better and I don't know ... maybe it will be and I'll try to keep an open mind about it, but right now I have to say that judging from the synopsis it doesn't sound better.
