Unfairly Rated

Much better than this page would have you expect. For me, it's right up there with David O. Russell's early stuff like FLIRTING WITH DISASTER as well as early Alexander Payne like CITIZEN RUTH and ELECTION. The movie works just fine and is plenty funny but I think a lot of people expected a masterpiece for some unknown reason. A solid 6 to 7 out of 10.

I agree with you! It's not a masterpiece, but it's not that bad. It could be a 6.5

Given the circumstances, it was much better than I thought it was going to be. You can almost see a good film in there. I've always though Jessica couldn't act, but she did an amazing job even in this hack of an edit.

Citing NASA as experts on these matters is like citing the KK on matters of race relations.

I can see what you mean. You can tell how this could have been a good film. However this film is truly terrible in my opinion. Probably the most poorly edited ive ever seen and oh my god that soundtrack. Daduq was that *beep*

Yeah, I don't get the hate and abysmal reviews and comments. Let's be clear, this is not a great film. But it's not a terrible one either. It's a pretty funny and entertaining rental. And I agree with the OP, I'd give it a 6/10 (or 7/10) rating. You definitely
can see early David O'Russell's blueprint on this. Too bad he and the studio bailed.
With better care and editing, it actually could have been a much much better film.
And maybe even a minor hit (art house theaters?) had they not dropped the ball.

Agreed. Definitely deserves more than 4/10 here. A little rough around the edges, but I found it to consistently funny, unpredictable and original. The style of comedy Will appeal to fans of the TV show Arrested Development I think.

reply

Too true. Not a masterpiece but definitely deserves at least a 6/10.

I totally agree with the OP. Most people are dumb, and have to be told what and how to think. So they hear that this movie is bad because of it's troubled history, and they just jump on the bandwagon and call the movie a trainwreck that has been pieced together... but if you actually watch the movie, and judge it without anyone telling you "it's a bad movie", you'll see that this movie is actually pretty good! ....The same thing happened with the Michelle Pfeiffer/ Paul Rudd movie "I Could Never Be Your Woman"- which is also a good movie, but everyone wants to pretend it's bad because it took forever to get released, and then it went directly to dvd.
