Chemistry not a requirement for the Sci-Fi Channel, huh?

Lithium doesn't occur in veins or combust in water. I guess this is why it's called science fiction, and The Fantasy Channel doesn't have the same ring to it.

I hate to disagree, but lithium presents a high risk of explosion when in contact with both combustible substances and water - which was actually what was described in the movie. When dispersed finely enough it can even ignite spontaneously on contact with air and reacts violently with water, forming highly explosive hydrogen gas.

While it is indeed not found in veins, it is though mostly to be found in granitic permatite and mining the metal is usually presenting a handling hazard because of the caustic hydroxide produced, that can, when in contact with moisture, cause an explosion.

That's pretty much the scientific background the movie exploited... Did it go beyond? Yep. Disregarding all that? Nope. So: fiction yes, but not quite as much as you implied. Which is not a problem, though. I don't think that either chemistry or geology are a requirement for scifi-viewers.

there are many things that are not required for Sci-Fi channel movies:

Plot
acting
likable characters
etc...

When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...

Well, with franchises like Stargate, rehashing plots with no end and featuring such amazing "actors" like Joe Flanigan and Rachel Lutrell, it better not be required...

Anyway: Fire From Below will have its tv-premiere on sci-fi sometime coming fall, but sci-fi channel itself has nothing to do with the production. That was Andrew Stevens Entertainment, which - if I'm not totally mistaken - means in fact Sony Entertainment.

I agree. I totally ignore the Saturday night features. It seems like the shows that are actually interesting (ie have all of the above) just don't seem to have much life on the channel (or most channels-oops, I didn't say that. I'm just in a bad mood).
