death wish lead actor

Here's a crazy idea---how about matt damon as paul kersey? Doesn't he kind of look like charles bronson? aside from that he's a great actor

reply

He isn't a bad idea, but Clive Owen is my guy. What you think?

reply

this is under stallones upcoming projects? so maybe sty is in the role, thats if its a remake, may be a sequel with a veteran like stallone on board

"Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs."

reply

Clive Owen would be terrific The guy's been underrated

reply

Matt Damon's pretty good, but personally I think him a bit young for the part.(In the novel Paul's 47) I know Kevin Costner's 56 but I think he could pass for the right age, and, all things considered,he seems to me the best choice for the role,as I think he also would be very convincing as a nonviolent upstanding citizen driven to violence by a brutal attack on his family.

reply

I'd like Terry O'Quinn to snag it. He can play tough, and also vulnerability. Sadly, I think it will end up going to a better known actor. Shame, O'Quinn could really go places with it.

I love to love my Lisa.

reply

how about Gary Oldman ?

reply

My three best would be either Viggo Mortensen, Liam Neeson, or Mickey Rourke. Other than those guys, I'm stumped.

"Hail to the King, Baby!"

reply

Liam Neeson is already doing the Taken series. It would be a mistake to bring him into a role that's that close to his role in Taken. Viggo, would be my pick from those three.

reply

Wow, for some reason I also immediately thought of Terry O Quinn and then came to these forums.

A pity it's going to Bruce Willis of all people.

Winter is coming.

reply

Oh. How I wish I'd became an actor. Instead of a career soldier .
I think there are a number of other lead options

reply

Hands down it has to be Josh Hartnett. He even looks like Charles Bronson.

reply

How about no one? Because it's been done before. No need to mess with perfection. Bronson was and is the man. Don't need a remake here.

reply

I think Michael Madsen would be a great choice

Could be fun if they cast Jeff Goldblum as Paul Kersey in the remake. =P

reply

Gotta be Mel Gibson!! It's like Riggs and Mad Max turned to 100 - kind of like Mel in real life....

He could direct it as well just to make sure it's seriously violent

reply

HA! I'm probably the only one who got that. Well played, sir. Well played.

I kind of think Matt Damon is a little played-out now after the Bourne movies. Mel Gibson is definitely psycho in real life, so much so that it may be tough to be sympathetic to his character. Plus, he sort of went down that road already in Ransom to some extent, and very much in Payback.

Me, I'd cast my favorite actor, Michael Keaton. He always brings so much to his characters. He generally has played nice, regular guys, but if you've seen Desperate Measures, you know he can have violent rage ready to burst out, too. He's the right age, and it'd be great to see him on the big screen again (assuming this is released theatrically).

And on a side note, he was definitely the best Batman, and I loved Kevin Bacon in Death Sentence, the true sequel. He's my second fav and plays good psychos, too (Trapped, Stir of Echoes, Hollow Man).

reply

I'd say either Tom Cruise if he grew a moustache or Brad Pitt if he dyed his hair black or even John Travolta Or Pierce Brosnan Daniel Craig Or Harrison Ford or even Clint Eastwood or hell even Jim Carrey

reply

George Clooney or Ben Affleck.

reply

Thank gosh you're not a casting director. I'm sure that you're a lovely person though. Live in good health.

reply

I can't see anyone other than Charlie Bronson playing the part

reply

You want aomeone unassuming to play Paul Kersey. Affleck doesn't look like the man of action who'd pick up a gun to kill street scum.
Clooney wouldn't look the part either.
But in the Book and movie Kersey was a C.O. during the Korean War. He served and got commendations. But he was like another C.O. Sgt. Alvin York.

Kersey is only pushed to the breaking point after he sees everything he loves destroyed and the police are helpless to do anything about it.
He then goes a litle crazy.
The Charles Bronson movies were great then we got Death Wish V which took everything to a absurd level.
Even Death wish 4 where it shows Kersey has a hidden room full of weapons.
That was just over the top nuts.
I'm sure they can do it more realistic this time around.

reply

I know that. But I still think no one can bring what Charles brought.

I even enjoyed Death Wish 4 and Death Wish 5 (I think they are a lot better than most action movies today )

reply

there was only one Charles Bronson. We got to make the new one different because we don't want to make it too similar lest we ruin the original with a remake of crap.

reply

What about Russel Crowe? Trust me I love Matt Damon and he is a fantastic actor, and I would like to see him go down that road actually but if were talking who would be the best now, well forget Stallone he would frggin ruin it. Russel Crowe would for sure knock it out of the park. But if we let Damon get a little older and make him look the part than I would like him for it. But for a 2014-15 release, Crowe would be the best.

reply

You need someone unassuming who doesn't look like a action movie star.
Matt Damon no Ben Affleck would work. Bruce Willis could do it in a very nice pinch.
But you need someone who wouldn't look like he'd go out and kill a few muggers.
To be HONEST VERY VERY Honest.
I'd give the role to Brandon Routh.
To me he'd be the ideal Paul Kersey.

reply

Rourke.

reply

Mel Gibson and Kevin Costner would be my first choices.

Rourke and Neeson would also be great for the part.

Harrison Ford would have been good for the part a few years ago. I feel he's become a bit too aged for this role.

I agree with a previous poster about Keaton as well. Michael Keaton would be interesting in the role. Plus, I just really miss Michael Keaton!

reply

Michael Madsen

reply

Gary Oldman would be perfect in the role once played by Charles Bronson.
