I'd have gone to Berlin with Elvis.

I dont think Elvis wanted a sexual relationship with Carty, more a best mate/brother. Yes Elvis loved Carty but it wasnt sexual.

They could even have stayed and lived together in Elvis' flat.

The sadness of the ending wasnt whether Elvis lived or died but the fact they didnt end up "together".
