Unrated Version - What the hell? (SOME SPOILERS)

I saw the theatrical version of Sex Drive last week and thought it was a good movie and would be worth to rewatch some time. So I got the unrated version, and boy, what the *beep*?! Naked chicks in random scenes, a guy's dick to act out as Lance's in the scene where they run from the redneck?! Also we get to see bloopers in the middle of the film, you can hear the crew laughing and even see part of them standing in the garage scene. Apart from all this the thing that disturbed me the most were the farts! How immature can you get if you put random farts in scenes that show butts? These things made the Unrated version unwatchable. I understand that it was just a joke from the makers but I expected it all to be very different.

The makers themselves say you should see the original version first, and that the 'unrated' version is crap and for fans only.

It's basically some self-indulgance by the makers, just an excuse to mess around. Their intro at the beginning kinda proves that.

reply

agree with you i hated the fart jokes

I thought the farts in the jail scene was to stop it from becoming too serious a scene (as serious as this movie can get).

reply

I thought the farts in the jail scene were the crew just trying to foul up the actors...until the camera pulled back to show the woman telling the story was taking a *beep* Hilarious!

Personally, I liked all of the things you mentioned that you didn't like. It was totally different and fun! I doubt I'll see the theatrical version after seeing the unrated.

I am watching the Unrated cut for the first time and I am almost pissing my pants laughing, specifically at the jail scene when the woman is telling her sob story with the sad piano music and a nice fart cuts the tension.

They have elevated farts in movies to new heights with this cut, including them in dramatic scenes for some reason is just hilarious.

Farts never get old if they are used properly.

reply

Farts are alright since it was a hook for the Jail scene. Extra Nudity didn't work out. They could have made it more classy by doing with some more style.

The unrated cut is satirizing the concept of it. For the most part with comedies, the creators have control, so the only reason for an unrated cut is to give people a reason to spend more for what is usually almost the exact same thing.

Essentially it was a spoof on their own movie. The unrated version was epic. I actually just got the blu-ray on netflix and watched the unrated version first. But that version is so awesome I'm going to go out and buy the movie now on amazon. It's just that good and funny. I've never laughed so hard in my life from all the off the wall stuff. The random nudity, James Mardsen was BRILLIANT. Everything about this movie was awesome. It's just so SILLY it's EPIC!

I agree. I thought that the unrated and added material, although it did take from the film's more serious moments, added a lot to the movie. Because of this constant interruption of the drama, it kept the film much less serious, which I think helps this film a lot. It presents this truly heartfelt story, but constantly has farts and naked women walking across the screen to remind you, "you're watching a teen sex comedy" and that reminder, I think, helps this film because it is so cliche. In the unrated version, the cliches and the weird additions all morph into one thing creating the "teen sex comedy environment" and within this weird alternate reality these characters can be real people in these contrived situations, and the outtakes and the performances mix together to make, strangely, more interesting characters, who, at times, aren't even taking the current situation seriously... which works in "teen sex comedy world".

I'm not sure how much was added or subtracted, because I've only seen the extended cut. I do understand exactly what parts were heartfelt story, and what parts were "teen sex comedy world" moments, and the "teen sex comedy world moments" were integral to the heartfelt story. The heartfelt story came out of these goofy contrived situations. Since the entire basis of the story is that world and that genre, I'm happy that they went as hardcore as they did with it for this cut, because I felt as if this super-awareness allowed the film to transcend the genre... Either way I am relatively uninterested in seeing the original cut, because there's no way it would be more interesting. The extended cut gets an 8 out of 10.

The one thing that *really* pissed me off about the unrated version wasn't the farts, or the penises, but the fact that Amanda Crew freaking teased us SO HARD at the end! I would give all the bare tits in this movie just to see hers. I'm sure they aren't great, but darnit she is really cute and the whole movie was about Ian having sex with her, so we should've gotten a little Amanda Crew breast action going on.

Yeah I watched the theatrical Sex Drive a couple months ago and decided to buy Sex Drive Unrated on the PS3 store and I wish I would have got the regular version because the Unrated is just too out there.

I have this thing that I like to see in films but never rarely do. I don't know why it amuses me so much, however, Kevin Smith does it often which may explain why I like his films (plus they are funny all round). I like it when characters in a film refrence other characters from past movies in which the actor they are speaking to have acted in the past. So my favorite scene in the unrated version is when Rex pushes the hotel door open on Ian and Ian turns to the camera and says, "It's cyclopse." I thought that was hilarous!

"But Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms." - Cracks me up everytime. On the bloopers/outtakes Kevin Smith keeps laughing every time Ben says the line.

reply

WTF? let me try to understand this, the farts offended you more than the d!cks and t!ts? the jail scene is awesome when the older lady is talking to Felecia with the fart noises and the camera pans out to see she's on the crapper, come on that is hilarious! farts are never not funny!

Farts are funny to men because men are obsessed with anuses and fecal matter. It's a byproduct of their never completed toddler days/anal stage of development.

Just proving I'm obsessed with anuses and fecal matter -.-
