Location! Location! Location!

Nobody else has mentioned it yet, so I feel like it's safe to bring up the subject:

Didn't New Zealand provide wonderful locations for the shooting of the film, doubling for Edwardian England like that?

You'd be hard-pressed to find suitable locations in the UK that matched the landscapes of a century ago, where you didn't have to digitally remove anachronistic evidence of the 21st century - in New Zealand, as Peter Jackson found, there are enough wide open spaces to film without seeing so much as a telephone pole, or even a road!

Brilliant idea to shoot there!
(Also, handy for Bryan Brown & Sam Neill, who live around Sydney, Australia - 3 hour plane trip and they're there!)

Do you know whereabouts in NZ it was filmed?

I particularly liked the street that Fisk Sr resided in.

HI,
Some of the filming was also done in the UK. The filming of the streets and buildings were done in a town called Wisbech in the East of England. I actually own a flat in the 'Crescent" which was one of the buildings used for the out side shots.

It was filmed entirely in the UK so you've made yourself look silly!

That scene did not happen there, it was on a farm framed with English Oak off Highway 1 south of the Bombay Hills, 40 minutes south of Auckland city. Nothing was filmed in Cornwall Park. The only shooting done in Auckland was the "gate scene" at the entrance to The Domain just south of Auckland Hospital. All shooting in NZ was done on a Arri 416 with Ultra Prime Lenses. Thanks.
