A waste of good actors and cinematography

The casting of all of the main leads was well done and their performances shown through as well as some creative and insightful cinematography and editing.

*** SPOILER ALERT***

However, there are plenty of things horribly wrong in this film. The musical score is weak: in production quality, overuse and syrupy themes ruined a lot of scenes when it would push you too hard for the emotions you are supposed to be feeling. The writer/director does a nice job of setting up the romance, but stumbles when the characters jump to first base, etc. You'll see the term "forced" a lot on these boards with good reason. Lastly, there's the overall plot. Needless to say, I think more people survive and are happy at the end of Hamlet than this story. The only good thing that happened was that Mehk eventually got to shoot up everyone who was after him. Let's summarize: Mom has abusive husband who gives her HIV/AIDS; she has one son who's a contract killer - the other has AIDS; she tries to hang herself but is saved only to be shot minutes later. Contract killer after a LONG process of cat and mouse finally finds his true love only to be turned into the police by his brother and separated from his lover for 30+ years; gets out of prison and is shot just as the couple's life is about to start in the year 2032 (we are talking about 50 feet out of the prison's gates). Brother got AIDS from step-father's molestation; can only make money as a prostitute and knowingly puts John's at risk; hangs himself when he gets gravely ill. Last but not least, the other love interest - good guy gets targeted by the Thai mob; gets shot at by his wife when she learns of his love for a man; has his love constantly rejected up until the time his lover gets caught by the police; gets blinded; separated from lover for a few decades only to have him be killed upon release..... but hey, at least he was alive at the end of the film.

10/10 for cinematography. 7/10 for acting. Love some little things like the wind-bell, ornamental fishes... But the script... It makes I think that the script writer is a little fangirl who reads so much yaoi manga lolz

It is called drama, and Asian cinema is known to be very dramatic and tragic. Would you be happy if Hollywood did the remake, complete with a newly revised "happy ending?" The hitman could go back to school, and become a genius who finds the cure for AIDS. He uses the serum to save his little brother´s life at the last minute. The two get married and move the mother in to the house, and the little brother becomes a social worker! I´m thinking Brad Pitt here... Oliver Stone could direct. (vomit)

Yes, I would be completely happy with a happy ending.
Not that many people has that many dramatic twist and turns in their lives.
It's completely far fetched and unbelievable.

Yes, it is called "fiction." It is also known as "romance," and "fantasy." It is a MOVIE. If you want ordinary drama, I suggest you hang out by the water cooler at work. You should be completely satisfied with that level of "everyday life." As for myself, I go to the cinema to escape the mundane reality of normal life, to experience stories that have "many twists and turns," and people who have experiences that are "far-fetched." I guess this way of thinking is the result of too much "reality TV," a generation of people lying around their homes watching people with bad skin and weight problems complain about cheating spouses, and doing the laundry. Personally, i dont want to look at that ugly garbage.

I agree with asgardsreil. Sometimes the happy endings in Hollywood movies are so tacked on.

If you have ever watched a manga, than you will notice that this dramatic style is the norm. The music is perfect, except for the vocal song which some could consider syrupy. it is a fantasy though, and a beautiful one at that. try to let yourself get into the film and stop being so judgemental. This is a film that is tragic on an operatic level; dont you think that it is intentional?
