I was wondering why Maria Vial (Isabelle Huppert) killed Henri Vial (Michel Subor) at the End of the Movie. Any suggestion?

I don't know why myself since her father in law was not responsible for her son's death.

probably because he signed the papers so that the mayor could take over the plantation.

because she was quietly and subtly mad from the very beginning of the film and even before that, and seeing the **SPOILER** mutilated corpses of her mad son and distant but well-meaning ex-husband **END SPOILER** made her madness not so subtle anymore. The old man was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when her transformation was complete. Simple as that.
