Waiting... BETTER THAN Slammin' Salmon

Wasn't Waiting... a funnier movie that this?

I'd like to hear your response, but please note if you've ever worked in food service or as a bartender.

Broken Lizard is hit or miss. Super Troopers is genius. I didn't like Dredd, but liked Beerfest (I enjoyed a lot of booze in college) and thought that M-C-D was the only saving grace in this movie (well him and JChal at times).

I hope these guys make enough money to retire early, but I fear they want to be Apatow reincarnated.

On a totally unrelated note . . . Any idea is this is related to Lee Roy Selmons' restaurants in Florida? He is a Hall of Fame football player who opened restaurants after playing for Tampa Bay.

This was a 6/10.

I thought this was a million times better than Waiting...

No I've never worked in food service.

I doubt that these guys have any aspirations of being like Apatow or retiring early when they can barely release any of their movies. This movie looks like it will never get a true release, even though it deserves it. I go to a comedy to laugh, and I laughed harder with this movie than I had in a long time.

Different styles. I loved Ryan Reynolds in Waiting but this was different and still great in its own.

Both have a place in my heart for awesome restaurant movies.

Other Broken Lizard flicks sound better too, actually ---->

I'm sure part of the title is connected/a nod to LeeRoy Selmons, given the guys' connection to Florida.

I'm not saying BL were trying to capture reality. When do they ever do that? I'm not even concerned with that element of it. What I think Waiting did is they used reality and turned it into some really funny moments and it added to the story. Slammin' Salmon wasn't funny and the jokes felt forced and just... not BL... if you catch my drift. And there kinda was no story. I felt like they were making a movie for the sake of making a movie. Weak effort all around.

You can compare any two comedies, so they absolutely can and should be compared. Waiting just happens to be another movie about food service, so it's an easy comparison. But that's all they have in common.

I think a 6.9/10 is a fair rating. It would probably settle down near 6.0 though. I enjoyed it (Broken Lizard Fan) but it definitely didn't have the same effect as Super Troopers or Beerfest for sure. It was just an "OK" movie. That's about how you can leave after seeing this flick.

I have been bartending for a while now, so I can say this logically - Waiting was accurate for the day to day aspects, but this movie wasn't trying to do that. This was just a comedy that happened to take place in a restaurant. They're not something that should be compared. Both were funny. Debate settled!

I saw a movie once.

Waiting... was funnier, but thats not a knock on Slammin' Salmon at all. Both were very good. Waiting... was more geared toward the service industry with their jokes (yes, i waited and was a bartender). Salmon was basically Broken Lizzards version of Waiting... you can't expect them to be true to reality, but they did have a few inside jokes that were spot on.

For example the agree Chef overcooking the fish and boiling the soup, maybe a bit extreme but things like that happen.

The annoying customer thats reading a book. Maybe not reading, but not ordering jack, i would have been trying to get him out of there too, wtf!

But the best part of all. Vivica A Fox character. Getting comped and not tipping. That brings me back, i had some peace of *beep* VIP customers in my day. Very much of the legendary singer types Fox was suppose to be.

I found this to be funnier than Waiting, although it too I liked.

Maybe...but only because "Waiting" was totally epic. This one was pretty darn good though.

Being that I like both Super Troopers & Beer Fest, I think it is safe to say that I like The Slammin Salmon better than Waiting...

Waiting... seemed to revolve around sex jokes or private parts jokes & who's gonna lay who 97% of the time which got old quick.

Naomi on the other hand, I liked her at 1st & then started to despise her (after I watched Still Waiting...) because of her constant bitchiness.

Monty was just too full of himself (it seemed) that he was a ladies man & party guy kind of like Van Wilder.

The only characters I could tolerate were Amy, Dean, Natasha, Serena, Nick, T-Dog & the cooks.

The Slammin Salmon on the other hand didn't seem to revolve around sex or private parts jokes (but it's been a while since I watched that movie) & I found it enjoyable.

I thought that whole sequence of Kevin Heffernan eating the brownie with the engagement ring, taking the laxative & then [BEEP]ing out the ring itself & then [BEEP]ing out the diamond were pretty funny.

Also, The Champ pronouncing Guy Metrapades ([i[Erik Stolhanske[/i]) as "Guy Meat Drapes" gave me a good laugh.

Plus I found all the (main) characters cool & likeable.

I seriously need to buy a DVD or Blu-Ray of this 1.
