I have a question for anglophones, since I'm from Italy and my mother tongue is not english. Streep's character doesn't have a typical american accent, my guess is that she has a mid-atlantic accent. Is that correct? Or is it just a posh accent?
Also, I have watched child's original videos, obviously Streep has done an awesome work copying her voice, was Child's accent a mid-atlantic as well?

Julia Child was born and raised in California, which typically has a neutral American accent. Similar to mid-Atlantic. However Julia was born to a wealthy family, so her unique voice (which was a big part of her popularity) is actually upper-class American at the turn of the 20th century. Upper class accents have mostly disappeared in America today. To modern ears they sound almost British.
shareIt was weird though that her sister sounded typically American and Julia's accent has an almost British-French lilt to it. They grew up together and yet their accents are completely different.
