Something tells me they had Meryl in excessively high heels or walking on a plank the whole movie to make her so tall, because if you notice, her feet are cut off in every scene except when she is walking through the tall grass at the sister's wedding.

Stanley is 5'8", Meryl is 5'6".
And Julia was 6'2". When I first learned that Meryl Streep was playing Julia I was really skeptical. Streep did a fantastic job and with great "movie magic" she looked the part.

It is really noticeable in the last scene, when Meryl walks into her kitchen and stands at her stove, and Paul brings in the published book. Meryl is wearing sky high heels.
shareMeryl's feet were shown, unshod, very near the beginning of the movie, in the scene where they first arrive at their new home and she goes into the bedroom and lies on the bed. The point of the scene was probably to show how tall she was, because her stockinged feet were hanging over the foot of the bed.
