So Awful It Hurt

Ok....I love Sci-fi and when I see a movie like this advertised I think..."cheesy but fun sword and dragon flick". This was just too cheesy....it was so cheeesy that it was painful. I mean PAINFUL. Egads! Who did the editing? I mean you could have gotten a better editor from some high school film appreciation class. Writing...well let's just not even go there. I don't expect Coen Bros. quality in a movie like this....but holy cow if standards in screen writing are this low, why is it so hard to break into the field? Shouldn't anyone be able to do it? I mean this gem here takes a special kind of stupid on the part of the folks in charge to get it made.

I feel sorry for John Rhys Davies' agent. He must be fired by now for pitching this thing to his client and conning him into doing the movie. I can't imagine why else an actor like that would be in a movie like this. I mean it was bad on so many levels....so so bad....it was like hearing nails scraping over a chalkboard.

I agree, it was cheesey. It was,sadly, better than that Odyseus movie Vosloo did for Sci-fi in spring. Im a big Vosloo fan. You're right, it's too bad that good older actors, just when they have been acting long enough to be really good, are discarded, depending on the politics and who their friends are in hollywood. Then they have to take this kind of drivel. Oh well we still have Billy-Bob Thornton. He'll be in stuff till he's 100. lol

After watching Fire and Ice I think it's one of Sci Fi's better movies with decent actors being its saving grace, but I agree the editing was horrid.

~~~~Thank God for DVRs~~~~
Exactly. For a scifi channel movie, it was pretty good. Acting was suprisingly decent, but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the CGI, and that's to be expected. Acting though, was passable.
I watched this film without knowing anything about anyone, only thing I knew was that it was a b adventure flick. To me It was way better than I expected. I really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of adventure/sci-fi and since there are not very many of this type of films around my expectations might have been extremely low, non the less I found this movie very enjoyable. For me it was like: wow, Keanu Reves with emotions, I also like girl heroes when they are still girls and not horrid bitches. I think this simple movie portrayed a girl hero very well without making her a total bitch, that's one of the things I really liked about this one. I for one hope not everyone condemn this film as I hope many more of it's kind are made.
Just for the record I'm not one of those people that want desperately to break in to the Hollywood business (although I would have some awesome stories for them), I'm just an average movie nerd living very very far from Hollywood. All I ask is that you don't put people like OP in charge of anything. That will just end up another "sunshine" that had lots of pretty pictures but no substance what so ever. I'm not saying this was the best writing EVER but It was better than a lot of the crap I watch, including some high budget movies that have been rated high on this page. Good work!
There is a good story here buried under very mediocre execution. Amy Acker and the knight characters are very good; the enemy king is horrendous.
After working behind the scenes (production) on a couple b-flicks like these, I could see how it would seem that the script was crap. On one in particular, I managed to get a copy of the script before shooting, and it was actually really good.
Budget constraints and director/producer squabbles can really alter the finished product however. Also, we ran out of time with our main location and had to cut whole scenes out of the story to make it work at all (Can't have scenes in a city in the old west if you fell behind and someone else already paid to shoot there). Sometimes the re-working of the script isn't even done by the original writer.
I don't know what kind of problems they ran into with Fire & Ice but I'd be willing to bet they probably got a pretty good script initially, but just couldn't do it justice.
