Good movie, but was it edited too much?

Just got done watching this, and thought it was a pretty good fantasy movie. Granted, there were a few plot-points that didn't make sense (such as John Rhys-Davies's... uhm... "noble act of selflessness," so to speak, that seemed completely unnecessary), but what really bothered me most was how the movie seemed to frequently jump ahead, or skip over things. It really looked like I was watching a badly edited-for-TV version, with lots of footage cut-out. The most glaring omission was the resolution between the two fighting dragons. There wasn't any. Suddenly everyone's talking about what to do about the other dragon, which was very confusing until you realize that it apparently must have won the battle.

One can't help but assume there must either be a longer cut of this movie that makes more sense out there somewhere, or that there was a lot of material left on the cutting room floor either by mistake or simply awful choices in editing.

I don't suppose anyone's aware of a longer cut available anywhere, eh?

I only today got to see this and for all the crabbing going on, I thought it was a pretty good little movie.

Your question about the editing made me want to respond. I'd have to watch it again, but I was a bit troubled by the editing as well, however, I thought it had not been cut up enough. There seemed to be a lot of padding, some sequences were prolonged seemingly to make the minimum running time. Consequently, the scenes on horseback and the dragon flights were a tad on the long side.

Nevertheless, I must agree with you, The-Kurgan, it is a "Good Movie". I had some trouble with some of the dialog, but it had a terrific cast and they did themselves proud (I must admit I tuned in because it featured Amy Acker, a very talented actress), very fine production values considering the low budget and some well-mounted action scenes.

For a "Sy-Fy Original" I it thought it was better than most of the stuff they have produced.
