Clive Owen as James Bond

I like Owen in Duplicity, but still would love to see him as James Bond. He'd be closer to Connery than any of them ...but maybe he turned it down.

First, I have no first hand knowledge one way or the other. But I find it tough to believe any english actor from 25 to 55 wouldn't give a few years off the back end of his life for the chance to play Bond, James Bond. A chance to put his own spin on the collected lore of 007.

My 2 cents, I like Daniel Craig more than any since SC.

Aren't we about due?

You can't turn down a role you were never offered - and thank God he wasn't. The guy would kill the series stone dead like he kills all his movies. You only have to look at the Pink Panther to see how pathetic an Owen Bond would be.

Don't be offended by a late reply or none at all, I've got a long posting quota.

According to the Owenistas, Cleeve is too good for 007.

They are an endangered species. Since Owen got ruled out for Bond his career has been going from disaster to disaster and the Owenistas can't jump the sinking ship fast enough.

I tell you who would make a great, GREAT James Bond.

John Cleese.

reply

Nah! He's played too many similar roles anyway... the novelty just wouldn't be there. Just in the past month, I saw "Duplicity" and "The International" on HBO in India... I am sure there must be more similar roles he'd have done, no?

The Bond series is finally dead, thanks the Almighty. The last Bond playing the role was Daniel Craig, he did two flicks, the first one of great, the second and final one a stinker. He was good, and so would have been Clive Owen, I suppose.

I doubt Clive Owen is having sleepless nights over not playing James Bond, however.

reply

Not dead, but that's because they didn't cast Clive "Kiss of Death" Owen. They're planning to shoot the next one next year. Meanwhile Owen is playing a supporting role in a Jason Statham movie and accepting every spy movie he's offered. Sounds like he might not be getting tha much sleep about being passed over.

The next film would have been starting production soon if it wasn't for the problems at MGM.

Quantum of Solace is one of the better films of the series.

I do doubt that, very much. Fortunately for us, EON didn't want him.
