Whats with the two identical 'Gotcha' scenes???!

This totally threw me- the same dialogue in two different cities/countries. Help -what was all that about???????????????

I'm assuming that the one in rome was real, whie the one in NY is the rehearsed version.

The one in NY was for the benefit of those that listened in. They knew they were being recorded.
