Julia Roberts playing Julia Roberts again.
Julia Roberts playing Julia Roberts again, at least the crew gets happy.

shareYou mean Julia Roberts STILL playing Julia Roberts.....
She hasn't played any other type of character, in any of her movies.
In the Duplicity trailer, it looks like she hasn't changed, still the goofy open mouth laugh, the hand on hip while spouting off yet another snappy comeback. This might of been "cute" 10-15 yrs ago....but coming from a 40 yr old woman, after seeing it repeated again and again, in all of her movies, has grown old.
The Broadway critics were right. The woman can't act.
I don't see the reviews of this movie being very kind to Julia.
However Clive Owen, LOOKS good. :)
Actually, most of the top critics mention Julia as one of the strongest elements of this movie.
shareI hate to agree cause she was so good in Pretty Woman, and I didn't mind My Best Friend's Wedding but.. yes.
shareI think Julia Roberts is a con. Come on, open your eyes: She is NOT BEAUTIFUL! Her mouth is ugly. Her ears are ugly. The proportions are all wrong.
She also has no charm to speak of.
I think she made a movie called "pretty woman" to fool people into believing that she is good-looking.
I still don't get why anyone fell for this.
Man, I used to agree with that viewpoint.
But nowadays, everytime I see that mouth and face of hers, I wish I could stick my meat and two veg in it.
Aww come now. She was really beautiful in Pretty Woman.
shareYep, she's the reason why I'm passing on it. I've never liked anything she's been in. Not even Oceans. She killed it.
I prefer not to
What else is new?
I'm glad Obama won, but I will not jump on the Pro-Choice bandwagon
madmando, that just summarizes my thoughts too, very well said.
shareMost actors these day play themselves. We actually have very few true actors but mostly personalites. Even the great John Wayne was a personallity but then again no one could play John Wayne like the Duke. Few can play Julia Roberts like Julia Roberts.

Gary Oldman rules.

The good ones don't.
There are "good" actors and there are "good" personalities. The problem is that the general public usually cannot tell the difference so their judgement is off.

I could not agree with you more.
I think more people are in love with her personality which comes off as affable and down-to-earth and they can't separate the two. I find her the most overrated actress in Hollywood. "Erin Brochovich" was sooo not worth an Oscar and her Oscar acceptance speech was her downfall for me. I think it was a revelation into what she really is: Arrogant. But then again, her handling of the entire Danny Moder affair with is now ex-wife sort of caused me to look at her in a different light as well and that's ignorance on my part. I mean, you should always be able to separate an actors personal life from the the character they play. But for some reason when I watch her now, i can't do it. I think she's good at playing the smart ass/witty characters so well because that's who she is. And Julia is good at playing Julia.

Stop taking what I write personally and chill out!
I think it's her persona too. I mean, look at Drew Barrymore, she plays herself a lot, and everyone seems to love her. There's an iciness about JR that puts people off. I don't know of many other top actresses that get "I can't stand her!" comments. She doesn't let people in, and then expects to be loved in her roles. Anyway, that's my feeling.
shareMy God, Drew Barrymore...
Talking about hating an actress...
She really is THE WORST.
It's always abominable to watch her twist her mouth... arrgh...
Julia is a star, like the stars of older days.
Watch films with Cary Grant and tell me if he was a good actor.
I undestand how people feel about Julia Roberts but I think she has graciously endured so many years the public scrutiny (is that a real word?) and I haven't seen a movie with her (this is, of course, my opinion based on my taste) in which she was bad.
Sometimes very good sometimes not so good but never bad.
Don't let yourselves get carried away by her persona, she is a good actress.
Cheers.
Actually NO!
Yes Julia Roberts isn't Tilda Swinton and many role she plays mostly same but Claire isn't typical Julia Roberts character also her performance fine in Duplicity ...
maybe you don't love her but please be objective!
actually most actors in the old golden age of cinema played themselves: Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, etc......
Julia is really a throwback to that. After method acting took over, then it became popular to not play variations of yourself but to literally become different people. There are few movie stars in the classic sense these days and actually Julia is one of those. She's a personality.
Plainview:Carrie you are a BASTARD FROM A BASKET!
Carrie:I'll use my telekinesis on your ass!
Thank you!! Someone who understands.

Julia Roberts has gone from an actress I liked to one that I really can't stand and I can't put my finger on why. All I know is that if they had cast any other actress, I would have paid to see this film. I like Clive and I loved Michael Clayton. Too bad I'll never see this thing because of Julia.
