Is sexism okay in this?

Just throwing it out there, but I spent most of my time trying to get laid in 'The Witcher'. You play a male character who has a tingly penis (apparently) - so why not? I thought that it added to the story.

Was this game critical of woman, or critical of men? (bit of both I reckon)

reply

It's kind of sexistic, just look how all the woman act around Geralt. ;)

reply

doubt many chicks played this game... and if they did, they probably wanted to sex up the witcher as much as the girls in the game. its hot.

reply

If you look at the way ALL the women in the game act and respond to Geralt you'll see the diversity and intelligence in the writing.

reply

I thought it was a fairly bleak, misanthropic game all round. The women are loose, the men are repugnant and the world is hardly the brightest or most pleasant of settings. Reminded me a bit overall of Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. Probably the best fantasy/sci-fi I've ever read, though the main character would sleep with anything that moved in that, too.

reply

It's in the spec's. Geralt, as a witcher, would cause a tingly sensation on skin contact (one of the ways to recognize a witcher), could not have children, nor get sick, therefore is immune to STD's. He's the medieval "ribbed, for her pleasure".

reply

I kinda missed the "tingly sensation" bit, could you remind me where is it mentioned in the books? I'll check.

Stupid movies can be fun...But not all of them.

He's tough, he's famous and he keeps saving damsels in distress. He's the Brad Pitt of he's era (or fantasy world)!!!

I saved a turtle, what have you been doing with your lives?

reply

It's actually funny that nobody thinks it's sexist if the man always wants sex... I guess that's just a long known fact ;-)
But apart from that the women you encounter in the witcher the grand majority are strong and intelligent women not the typical sexist damsel in distress... Since both sexes appear to be easy on the same level I wouldn't call it sexist.

reply

Geralt is such a bodice-ripper type of hero I could've sworn this was written by a woman. The sexual situations don't appear any more sexist than most romantic fantasy novels.

But since this was written by a Polish author, I'd be curious to know whether in Poland this is even a question.

well the game it's a masterpiece.on the subject i have to say that i'm tired of this cliche tha men are gorillaz obsessed by sex and women are pure angels.men are the most sexually harassed beings on the planet.i mean look around you, half naked women everywhere...they sell products, they 're in all comercials,on the street etc.the choice of becomuing sexual objects its their own.it's like instead of work for something it's easier to get undressed to evolve in your life or career.imagine if you see half naked man rubbed in oil selling cars.disgusting...sexism was invented by frustrated women.look what happens when a male actor or singers appears, crowds of hysteric girls scream and faint...have you seen men doing something like that?geralt is a men, brave, smatrt and well knownin his time.they want a piece and they have no shame..when did you last see a man suing for harassement?i guees he can't go that low...i'm tired of this "sexism" threads started by women,it's like throwing the dog a bone...if they are started by men it's even lamer...women don't play this game anyway, they itend to use the pc for internet only, ofcourse there are exceptions but they make the rule stronger...and,yeah the sexism is ok in this cause it comes both ways...why the sexism is also associated with menhood?feminism is not sexism?even more agressive and militant.feminism gave rights to girls without responsabilities and gave men responsabilities without rights.

Glad to see you enjoyed it, a lot of people were up in arms about the whole thing - and yet if it were in an 18 rated film (as The Witcher is 18 rated in the UK) no body would even think twice about it.

I thought it was about time adult themes came 'properly' in to games, and parents & suppliers have to enforce the 18 age limit.

I noticed that on the add-on missions, the sex cards became a lot more tame... Shame really!

My God, I hope they write a sequal that lives up to this first game... Now that'll be tough...

Or maybe it was neither, and you just need to get over yourself. Geralt is a dude who knows how to get laid. That's it.

reply

It felt more like doing good deeds and making everyone happy :)
Oh, man...I'm glad you said this. It's the kind of thing I would've said if I were in a mood to face down the inevitable flak for it.
