Why does everybody hate this movie?

I actually enjoyed this movie,I had to rewind a couple of times to get what some of the characters were saying..but when I did I discovered parts of the dialoge that fly over some peoples head was brilliant writing.
Beaing a former Infantryman myself I could relate to much of the situations.
To appriciatr this movie you really really have to pay close attention ALL the time.
Also I got the imoression thet the shopkeeper(the guy who saves him and perform improvised field surgery on him was a veteran of the first Gulf war, this is because the dates mentioned(Carcrash etc)were dead on after the end of that conflict,I sat acrually the whole movie waiting for him to tell his war stories of pain, and the fact that he seemed to instantly understand what Cuba Gooding jr. (his character ofc) was going trough and could relate to that.
Anyway it would be so freaking scary if it really was like in this move(the plot).

After i finished watching it for the first time i did really feel like i missed the whole plot of the movie;i tried to put together from the 'various pieces' of what i just saw a clear story and at first i really thought that plot holes/bad editing made it look confusing and without continuity.
So because i did want to know if i missed something or was not paying enough attention and getting over the 'why bother?' i viewed it for the second time next day and at the parts i didn't really understood the dialogues i replayed them for a few more times until i understood them in general,at the end i was amazed how many things i didn't notice initally.
It was a good low-buget flick, made me work my mind a little but did worth while.
Of course there are a few things that remained unclear/not certain so if anyone would like to talk about it or has questions,i'm looking forward.

could not have put it better.
Whats up with Cuba? One Low Budget stinker after the other these last few years. Is it him trying too hard for the tough guy, while all the studios give him is cheesy comedies, xcept those who cast him for his name in cheap movies, if he comes a bargain?
Going down the same way as Van Damme, Segal, Snipes, only that he has had some talent

This movie helped me overcome insomnia. Now, if there were some way to get Blockbuster to reimburse me for the 20 minutes I stayed awake for it, I might be happier.

This movie was just another typical Hollywood political commentary.

The government creates a "war" so we can have real heros.

The government creates a "war" so the military can test its newest toys.

The government creates a "war" to fix the economy...war creates jobs.
(Actually, WWII did bring us out of the 1930s Depression.)

I'm surprised Barbra Streisand wasn't singing the backgroud music.

The timeline jumps can't evem save the jaded plot line in this one.

Grab an old copy of Wag the Dog. Same basic concept, but at least it was done humorously.

lol Babra Streisand singing .

I think the slow pace and the fact that nothing was blown up, and there were no car chases all contributed to the disappointment. The audience for this movies likes their soldier-done-wrong movies with less dialog and more firepower. There's not much killing done, especially at the start of the movie, thus people were "bored".

I think the real weakness of the movie is that it is thin on plot;mostly likely due to a limited budget. But it was well acted and directed, and for those reasons alone deserves higher than a 3-something.

There are far worse movies out there with higher ratings. There are far better movies, but given what little they had to work with, and the message-point of the movie, I think a 6 is more accurate.

I'm sure glad that brilliant writing didn't fly over your head. After all, my 12-yr-old son wrote those lines.

I like how you mentioned that you watched the movie like 20 times rewinding it.. its such a cliche that people sitting in the movie theater do not have such luxury and I am pretty sure that most people who heard how bad the movie was would not have rented a dvd to understand it. I only watched it because i have unlimited blockbuster pass and really running out of things to watch.

ztpt, I got it however I'll bet some of the others won't because it doesn't have all that fancy CGI crap with liberal sprinklings of blood and guts usually attached to these type movies. They probably wouldn't like old classic war movies either. Those ran a lot slower and were much longer the this 90 minute flash in the pan. Great synopsis!!!

Dislike what UR viewing _what UR hearing _whatever's happening! U could go elsewhere or turn it off

You are barely literate, no wonder you liked this movie.
