Named after Bowie lyric?

I'm probably looking waaaaaaaaaaaay too much into the title, but does this at all reference David Bowie's song "Let's Dance". There is a lyric "Let's sway, under the moonlight the serious moonlight."

Just curious.

:)

Why so serious?

reply

It's really funny that you say that. I just happened to find this movie and when I read the title I started singing to myself. I had to check out the message boards and see if anyone else had already said it and poof! found yours. I don't know if it's a reference but that's what came to my mind.

Don't judge a book by it's movie.

reply

As soon as I read the title of this movie, that's the first thing I thought of!

reply

same thing.
First thing it came to my mind was Bowie's lyrics, which also was the name of the Let's Dance Tour, which is available in VHS and Laserdisc as far as remember as "Serious Moonlight".

reply

I thought the same, as soon as I read the title of the film.

You're not shy. You're a lawyer.

reply

Yep I'm here for the same reason. There's the lyric, and also the Serious Moonlight Tour of 1983. So a reference seems quite likely.

The end does not purify the means

reply

Yeah, has to be a reference, IMO.

reply

The only reason I'm even visiting this board is because I'm a Bowie fan and I'm curious about the title. Before Bowie -- and after him, for that matter -- moonlight was never "serious."

reply

ha, Same here.
I was browsing under Kristen Bell's page and saw this and immediately started humming Let's Dance

reply

Yes! I'm not crazy!
That's the first thing I thought of after reading the title.

Man, I love David Bowie. I wonder if he'll tour again, or what... it's been a while, is all. Ah, well - who knows, maybe he's trying to spend more time with his family.

reply

I thought the exact same thing when I heard of this film! I love Adrienne Shelly and believe her to be a brilliant and special artist. Her face and presence transcends beauty. I'm so glad there is something more from her to be shared!
And what a great cast! Thank you Adrienne.

reply

You'll be glad to know that Shelly left about a half dozen scripts behind, of varying development. Her husband plans to develop as many as possible under his company, All For A Films.

Waitress kinda choked me up because of the terrible circumstances. But after I learned that young Lulu in the last scenes is Shelly's daughter, well, I can't even watch the last few minutes now.

reply

Well it's nice to know I'm not the only music geek out there that immediately thought of "Let's Dance" when I read the title.

reply

I loved Adrienne Shelly too, and I'm pleased that the scripts that she left will finally be turned into films. God bless Andy Ostroy for everything he's done in her name! Not just in helping to put his wife's killer behind bars, but in setting up All For A Films and establishing the Adrienne Shelly Foundation to carry her on her legacy!

The city of New York has also honoured Adrienne's memory by establishing a memorial garden in Abingdon Square Park just a few yards away from Shelly's West Village home. It will by formally opened on the 3rd of August by the unvieling of a plaque by Andy Ostroy, and it sounds like a very fitting monument to this beautiful and talented actress and film-maker.

reply

Yep, I know I'm late in posting, but it sounds like they titled it that from the lyrics. I've never heard the term 'serious moonlight' used anywhere else.

Bowie apparently meant it as Sirius Moonlight... or so I've heard

but yes 'serious moonlight' is what's in the lyrics of Let's Dance.

reply

I most definitely began humming that song when I read the title. I'm glad I'm not the only nutter.

reply

That's the 1st thing I thought too!
