Terrible Cartoonish CGI

Whoever was in charge of the movies CGI and cinematography should never be allowed near a big budget blockbuster again. It was one of the worst CGI's I've ever seen in a comic movie. The movie would have been so much better if they would have had Transformers level CGI in it.

The greenish superpowers of green lantern looked abismal. It's truly hard to watch. Back in 2011, I said" Jesus, that looks like a ps3 cutscene mashed into a live action environment"

It looks out of place, boring, ugly and just like you said, cartoonish.

I entirely agree. Actually I think almost everybody agrees on this. I just re watched the movie and it does look like anything that comes from the green lantern powers (whichever character, not just Hal Jordan) they all look fake.

The only excuse I can think of is that by the concept of the original comics story and the TV cartoons and animated movies the green powers are themselves "fake" projections of the ring. The suit is also a projection/manifestation of the ring which is why it glows maybe? I wonder how it could have looked less fake, and I can't think of too many ways.

They definitely should have put him into an actual suit at least I half of the scenes to confuse the viewers. The parts with his brother looked great and I think it is because they just applied rubber on him and didn't need to make him glow any color.

Everything and everyone in space and on the lantern planet looks particularly fake. Especially in the scene with the sun.

One thing however I want to mention is that I didn't find the "hippie head with huge dirty dreadlocks" to look too fake. I even looked at footage of various explosions and smoke clouds and when they're real, in real life, they actually look as if they're fake. Very strange how one movie can have such crap effects and good ones at ones.

Sony Imageworks told WB that they needed more time to complete the CGI, WB said no.

Horrible like you said it could have been much better with some decent CGI.

gotta disagree. the green CGI was almost straight out of the comics, and very imaginitive.

The director Martin Campbell is actually very good. He did GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale, and The Foreigner. He just wasn't used to CGI heavy blockbusters such as a superhero movie like Green Lantern. Why WB picked him to do Green Lantern instead of something more low-tech like Green Arrow is beyond me.
