BIASED PROPAGANDA the likes i have NEVER witnessed

oh man, this movie was so ONE SIDED i felt like pulling the plug, but i kept watching and felt like dying by the end. it was as if Dr. Jack himself wrote the film. i mean, come on hollywood, show both sides, or something. man this was really something.

Movies generally have to take a point of view. That showing both sides thing isn't really a good artistic choice a lot of the time.

It's a drama, not a debate.

reply

I guess the protesters and the Criminal Justice systems were only in the movie for $hits and giggles.

What's the other side of the argument?

That the fate of human life is in God's hands? That has no rational basis for what should be a rational and secular society.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

No bias. Dr. Jack was right and the medical community are a bunch of amoral cowards. I have been a long time supporter of Dr. Jack and his work and his desire to let terminally ill people die with dignity and offered an apparatus where the patient themselves "pulled the plug" as it were. Dr. Jack would reject a lot of people who were not terminal (as show in the film).

Dr. Jack was a weird old man, no doubt about that, he made really weird macabre artwork and the guy lived alone and yes, the old man was "strange". But he was on the right side of this issue and am sorry he passed away and there isn't anyone brave enough to take his place. Keeping people on artificual life support with no chance of recovery and constant pain makes medicine a lot of money.

reply

What's the OTHER side? Explain that.. They had protestors and a prosecutor arguing the "other' side.. what else were you expecting? it was about JACK!

It's pretty clear how the filmmakers here feel about euthanasia, but I think the focus here was more on clearing up some of the myths vs. reality of Kevorkian, hence the title "You Don't Know Jack". Sure, it was propaganda, but it worked better as a biography. Propaganda isn't necessarily a bad thing, one just has to be sharp enough to evaluate the film on its own terms aside from whether you agree or disagree with the politics. That can be really tough when a terrible film has a point of view you cherish, or an excellently made film has a moral you abhor.

Whatever your feeling are towards euthanasia, did you learn more about Kevorkian? I sure did.

It's his story, told from his perspective... If someone were to write a biography of you, would you really want half of the script tilted in favour of the people who hate you?

This is where the magic happens... and by "magic", I mean nothing.

reply

Maybe someone will do a movie that promotes the concept of keeping human beings alive even longer while they suffer in pain from a terminal illness. Because that's what your advocating.

reply

The film is certainly a polemic.

Its that man again!!
